3. How did I feel when I saw my practicum site? What are my apprehensions?
Complete the facial expression and explain why you feel this way.

I felt excitement, happiness, and nervousness for being

deployed in a well-known institution like La Filipina
National High School. The school is great – the students
and the school staff were all kind and respectful.
During the time of our deployment, I was amazed how
big the school was, the huge buildings, the wide oval at
the center field, and the clean surroundings. I also like
their mini hotel where our first day orientation happened.

MY PRACTICE TEACHING KIT

After our orientation session, with the administrator(s), cooperating
principal, college supervisor, cooperating teachers, together with my co-preservice
teachers, I need to equip myself with the PT Kit (Practice Teaching Kit) to better
prepare myself in this wonderful world of teaching. What tools I need to bring in
my teaching internship in terms of Knowledge, Attitude, Skills, and Habits
(KASH)?

In terms of knowledge, I will ensure to

apply in my internship journey all the things
KNOWLEDGE
that my cooperating teacher taught me during
our Field Studies 1 and 2. Moreover, I will
extend my knowledge by researching
important things related to the subject or topic
as well as how to be an effective teacher.
In terms of attitude, I will be friendly,
respectful, and polite to every student, to the
ATTITUDE
teacher, and to the school authorities and staff.
Thus, I will bring the values of a true DNSC
student to my workplace.
In terms of skills, the things that I will
bring as a Pre-Service Teacher in LFNHS are
SKILLS
interpersonal and communication skills,
technological skills, and listening skills.
Moreover, I will ensure to be innovative in
terms of making the class more engaging and
interesting.
In terms of habits, it is essential to bring
good habits into my workplace, such as going
HABITS
to school on time to avoid tardiness and being
polite at all times. It is also important to create
the habit of building good relationship
towards the students, teachers and co-
preservice teachers inside the school.

My Narrative of Experience

In this section, I am going to narrate my experience on the following:

a. Pre-Deployment Series of Orientations

b. Orientation Sessions with the Cooperating School
(Make sure to append photo documentations of your narrative)

A. Pre-Deployment Series of Orientation

My experiences during the pre-deployment series of orientation were

so educational. It took me on a very insightful journey where I was able to
learn everything I needed for my internship.
The series of seminars and orientations was conducted at our school,
Davao del Norte State College. The first seminar was about media and
information literacy. The seminar taught us how to do fact checking and how
to be careful when posting and sharing information on any of our social media
platforms. Moreover, the seminar also gives us some insights about the dos
and don’ts in terms of posting or sharing information related to our workplace
or to our cooperating teachers. The second seminar talks about classroom-
based action research for teacher education. It taught us about the importance
of action research, how it works, and how it improves classroom management
and instruction. The third seminar was about accessing resources, curating
learning materials, and using teaching strategies. It taught us how to evaluate,
innovate, create, organize, and choose which resources are valuable in
teaching a certain lesson or topic. Thus, the seminar taught us how to find,
curate, and share teaching materials and strategies. Moreover, the seminar
gives us some ideas about useful websites that are available and easy to
access. The fourth and last seminar was about sexual harassment. It taught us
everything about sexual harassment, including its different types and the laws,
punishments, and consequences related to it. It also gave us some reminders
to not do any harmful and inappropriate activities that may ruin the name and
reputation of the school. Also, it taught us the things we needed to do if we
ever experienced or encountered sexual harassment.
All in all, the four seminars taught us important things that can be
useful in our teaching internship journey.

B. Orientation Series with the Cooperating School

March 1, 2023, the day of our deployment at La Filipina National

High School. All of us were present and arrived earlier than 7:30 am to
prepare for the program—orientation together with the school principal,
master teachers, our cooperating teachers, and our practicum supervisor.
The program was conducted at the school’s mini-hotel with the
master of ceremony, Ms. Julie Ann S. Talondron, BSEd—English. During
the program, the school principal welcomed us wholeheartedly. He also gives
us some messages regarding how happy they are to have us. Moreover,
Ma’am Engay informed us about the school policies, the rules and
regulations, and the dos and don’ts. She also introduced to us the assistant
principal, the assistant to the principal in governance, and learner support, the
head teachers, the master teachers in every subject area, and our cooperating
teachers. The program ended with some expectations and acknowledgement
given by Ma’am Engay herself.
My Reflections

My “What Ifs” at School Site

I have known La Filipina National High School as a competitive school in
the City of Tagum, and I am very aware of how the students in this institution
performed very well, either academically or in sports. This is the main reason why
there are few what-ifs running through my mind: "What if I can’t handle the class
very well?", "What if they don’t like the way I teach?", “What if my students will
not listen to me during my discussion?”, and "What if I will be assigned to a very
strict cooperating teacher?". Those are just some of my what-ifs at the school site.
However, despite all the what-ifs I have in my mind, I will still give my best in
teaching, influencing, and sharing my knowledge with the learners. Those what-ifs
will not be the hindrance for me to accomplish the task given to me as a pre-
service teacher. Thus, I will think of it as my motivation in achieving my goals.

My Objectives

At the end of this episode, I should be able to meet my cooperating teacher

and students. I will identify the expectations of my cooperating teacher and
observe how the students interact with their teacher(s). I will also extend my
assistant in the daily routinary activities of my school.

My Directions

To get to know my cooperating school better, I must do the following

tasks:

Observe well.

Write down notes.

Extend assistance when needed.

My Tasks

On the board, I will be writing the cooperating teacher’s expectations that

I need to fully understand during my teaching internship days to establish better
relationships. Likewise, I will also be writing my expectations that I need to
convey to my cooperating teacher in order that my needs are also understood or
met.

My Cooperating Teacher’s
Expectations

First and foremost, my

cooperating teacher expects me to
always maintain a good and positive
attitude, especially towards the
students and the other teachers and
non-teaching personnel, which will
help me establish a better relationship
with each other.

Moreover, he expects me to be
good at preparing a lesson and in
teaching and handling students
because he believes that every PST
deployed from DNSC has those
qualities.

Lastly, my cooperating teacher

expects me to be obedient, respectful,
My Expectations

As a pre-service teacher at a well-known

institution, I am expecting a lot of work to be done,
especially since my cooperating teacher has an
advisory class and handles four sections. Thus, I am
expecting to do things such as cleaning and
organizing the classroom and giving of
announcements and/or reminders. I am also
expecting to design lesson plan/s that integrate
different teaching approaches and techniques.
Moreover, I am anticipating that my cooperating
teacher will share with me his expertise and
knowledge about mathematics, as well as in
handling and teaching different type of learners,
especially in addressing their needs. Above all, I
expect that my cooperating teacher will guide and
help me throughout my internship journey.

1. In the observation phase, I need to focus on the following:

The school policies and guidelines, as well as the rules and

regulations given by my cooperating teacher.

The preparation of the lesson plans and other instructional

materials.

The classroom management/routines of my cooperating

teacher.

The behavior of the learners and how they interact with the
teacher.
How the teacher interacts with the learners and the ways he
delivers his lessons.

How my cooperating teacher motivate the learners to

participate in his class.

2. Why do I need to establish a harmonious relationship with my cooperating

teacher?

 As a pre-service teacher, going on this journey alone is difficult.

This is the main reason why we need to build harmonious
relationships with our cooperating teacher. For me, they were
the one who could help and guide me in terms of handling
different types of learners and addressing their needs. The
experiences and knowledge he share with me, as well as his
expertise in the world of teaching, will help me accomplish the
tasks given to me.

3. What do I need to do to get along well with the non-teaching staff?

 Aside from building a good relationship with my cooperating

teacher and the other teachers, it is also essential that I get along
well with the non-teaching staff. For starters, greeting them with
a smile every time our paths cross will surely lighten their day,
especially since they are the ones who maintain the cleanliness
of the school and ensure the students and the teachers are safe
and secure inside the school premises. Above all, treat them with
respect, regardless of their position in the school.

Dr. Nancy B. Gonzales, Principal II

Dr. Nancy B. Gonzales, the new principal of La
Filipina National High School. From what I have observed
and experienced during her introduction, I could say that
she was very strict in terms of following the school policies
and guidelines. However, she was so kind and
accommodating that whenever we met her or saw her in
the hallway, or when we visited her in her office, we
wouldn’t be afraid of her since she smiles as always.
College Supervisor’s Corner

Mr. Ellvan M. Campos

Our very supportive and elegant college supervisor,
Mr. Ellvan M. Campos, is the program chair of the
Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in Mathematics at
Davao del Norte State College. I could still remember how
he instructed us about the things we needed to do and
shouldn’t do inside the school premises. Whenever he has
free time, he always sends us a message in our GC, asking
us if we’re doing okay in our respective cooperating
schools and reminding us that we should always be mindful
of our actions, that we should obey and follow all the rules
and regulations that are given to us, and that we should
always be kind, respectful, and friendly. Above all, he
encourages us to do our best in every assignment given to
us by our cooperating teachers.
Cooperating Teacher’s Corner

Mr. Edward P. Moring

My very kind, talented, and helpful cooperating teacher, Mr.
Edward P. Moring, is a grade 10 teacher and adviser at La Filipina
National High School. He is approachable, humble, cooperative,
determined, and most especially, he is knowledgeable. During my
turn in teaching, he always took the time to provide feedback after
every one of my classes. He will address my deficiencies, especially
in classroom management, in helping my students formulate
questions and addressing their questions and/or clarifications. He
also gave some tips on how I can improve my way of teaching,
especially by making the class discussion more fun and meaningful.
Moreover, he also helps me design lesson plans with activities that
enable students to actively participate and enjoy the class
discussion. As I have compared my very first and last classes, I
could say that there is really a big difference between the two, from
the teaching strategies to classroom management. Also, I could still
remember him saying, "Grabe Sir, dako na kayo’g improvement
imong way of teaching ba". His feedbacks, teachings, and all the
experiences I had under him are the main reasons why I am very
thankful to have him as my cooperating teacher.

My Realizations after Meeting my Cooperating Teacher

“Sir Ed: A One of A Kind Teacher”

Teachers are the ones who play a vital role in shaping the future of
their students. That’s the best quality possessed by my cooperating teacher
based on what I have observed and seen during my first week at La Filipina
National High School.

My first impression when I met my cooperating teacher during Field

Studies 1 and 2 was that he had a very strict look and aura. I thought he was
the type of teacher who was difficult to get along with, but as time passed by, I
proved myself wrong about that. He is really a good and very kind teacher and
parent to his students – he is the best teacher, indeed.

I can clearly describe in a very simple way why he is the best teacher.
He is a one-of-a-kind teacher; he was engaging and had a very interesting life.
I could say that most of the teachers distance themselves from their students,
which leads to their students disengaging with them too, but my cooperating
teacher is different. He spares some of his time talking with his students,
asking how their day was, if they ate breakfast or lunch, and even reminding
them to keep safe on their way home. I could still remember that before he
starts his classes, he always reminds the students, especially those less
participative, about their standing on his subject, thus encouraging them to
participate and to submit their lacking outputs at their preferred time or day.

Moreover, he is a teacher who never gets angry easily. I could still

recall how he fixed the problem when two of his students argued, which
turned into a fist fight. He was very calm in addressing the problem, and later,
he forgives the two students and reminds them not to do such things again.
Aside from that, he also provided me with some words and tips on how to deal
with such problems. Not just that, he also taught me how to start a class,
organize the students, modify the lesson plan, and teach with authority so that
students will behave orderly.

All in all, there are a bunch of realizations and reasons to stay

My Realizations on The First Day of
my Internship
“LFNHS: A Feeling of Excitement on My First Day of Internship”

On my very first day of my internship at La Filipina National High

School, it was unimaginable, but it was filled with excitement and happiness.
Who could have thought that after a very long period, I finally got to meet my
students again, but this time, it would be my turn to teach and share with them
my knowledge in mathematics.

After our orientation with the principal and other cooperating teachers,
me and my cooperating teacher went to his class advisory, and he introduced
me to my co-PST from USEP, who is also under his guidance. The three of us
did a very short orientation regarding the things we need to do, and we
discussed how we split the loads of our CT, so we decided to have and teach
two sections each.

Moreover, my cooperating teacher introduced me again to the two

sections that I will be handling. At first, I felt nervous and pressured because
one of the two sections that I’ll be handling is the Special Program for
Journalism (SPJ section), which is a section for above-average students.
During the day of my introduction, I could also see and feel their excitement
and happiness to have me as their pre-service teacher. This is because they
already knew me and my way of teaching during Field Studies 1 and 2.

On the same day, my cooperating teacher also instructed me to meet

with his math quizzer. He told me to continue preparing and teaching them
everything they need to do, know, and understand, just like I did during our FS
1 and 2. And as a former math quizzer, I also gave them some tips that can be
very useful for them.

In general, a lot of things happened on the first day of my internship,

and all the memories I had that day will always be remembered.

My Cooperating School

In this episode, I will familiarize myself with the school’s

facilities and resources to describe my cooperating school.
Knowing the facilities in my cooperating school will enable me
to utilize the learning resources of the school when needed, especially for the purpose
of making the teaching and learning process more meaningful.

My Directions
To know better my cooperating school, my second home, I need to do the
following tasks:
1. Visit the facilities of the school.
2. Analyze the vision, mission, core values of the school.
3. Meet the personnel.
4. Understand the uses or importance of these facilities or learning
resources in the teaching ang learning process.

My Tasks
On the space below, I will be posting the collage of pictures of the facilities
of my cooperating school that I visited.

LIBRARY GYMNASIUM
CLINIC OVAL FIELD
On the table, I will be recording at least five (5) facilities that I have visited
and will write the importance of these facilities in the teaching-learning process.
School Facilities Importance of these facilities
Visited in the teaching-learning process
Gymnasium A gymnasium played a huge role in the school. It
allows students to practice for respective events and/or
activities thus, it will give the students a great avenue for
any cardiovascular activities and sports-related activities.
Also, this building is used for symposiums and seminars on
various topics. This will give students an opportunity to
learn about awareness and to share it with other students as
well.

Library The library is one of the most important areas in

school that plays a significant role in the teaching and
learning process by providing information resources to both
students and teachers. Since libraries are designed to
provide additional benefit to the students’ understanding, it
is a good place for them to study their lessons and seek an
answer to a certain question on their assignment.

Clinic A reliable health clinic for all students, teachers, and

school personnel. This will provide them with first-aid
response and other health services if anything happens to
them or if they have any type of illness or injury. Aside
from that, they also provide health counseling and health
education for students.

Oval Field Aside from their gymnasium, it is also an open field

or an area that allows students to perform any
cardiovascular and sports-related activities, such as
running and jogging. Mostly, it a place where students
can play and practice football. It is also the place where
the boys and girls scouts practice their drills.

Audio-Visual The room is located on the 3 rd floor of the grade 7 and

8 building, and it is big enough for a typical audio-visual
Room room. There are some teachers who use this room for their
classes, which makes this room somehow essential in the
teaching-learning process. Most of the time, it is an area
where the journalist students can practice their skills,
especially in the radio broadcasting category.

Complete the following to form a paragraph:

My second home is La Filipina National High School, the home of

the champions. This is my second home, where everyone is safe and secure,
the people are friendly, and there is a non-threatening environment. Every
time I go to this school, I always think that I am at home because I feel that
my heart belongs there. I felt comfortable with the people there. The
greetings coming from the students, the other teachers and non-teaching
personnel, and from my co-PSTs give me a warm feeling, which is one of the
many reasons why there is a smile on my face. It is such an honor to be one
of the PSTs being deployed in this kind of school, and I am looking forward
soon to working in a school that has a similar environment to my second
home.

My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here your significant experience with your cooperating

school as your second home within the 360 hours. What the school
has taught you about teaching and learning?

“LFNHS: My Second Home”

La Filipina National High School is known for its slogan, "Home
of the Champions," and this school, my second home, has taught me a
lot.

Way back when I was still learning the necessary skills that a
teacher must possess, it was hard. And during our deployment, I asked
myself if I was ready for this. I know in myself that I am not fully
equipped with the skills and knowledge, but as soon as I began this
journey, everything changed.

It took me a while to develop my skills and capabilities in

designing a lesson plan, organizing, or managing the class, my way of
teaching, and addressing the needs of each learner. Indeed, as the saying
goes "learning is a painful process", but in my case, the process becomes
easy with the guidance of my dear cooperating teacher, Sir Edward. His
experiences and knowledge that he shared with me are the reasons why I
keep on surviving on this journey. Moreover, my cooperating teacher
also taught me and gave me some tips on how to craft effective learning
activities and instructional materials. The school has opened my eyes to
the real world of teaching and educated me about the routines of being a
real teacher.

To sum up all my experiences with my cooperating school and

cooperating teacher, I could say that it has been a very tough and
challenging but exciting and memorable journey.

My Classroom Routines

This episode will center on my close observation to the

classroom routines performed by my cooperating teacher
and my students. To make this learning experience
meaningful, I need to record important notes during the observation, assist my
cooperating teachers in establishing/doing the classroom routines, and extend
assistance in the day’s activities.

My Directions

To get to know my cooperating school better, I must do the following tasks:

Research on the definitions of classroom routines and ways in

establishing classroom routines…..Write down here….You may use
graphic organizer to present your ideas.

Solid Classroom routines and procedures are the heart of every successful
classroom. Transition is quick, materials are organized, and all students know where
to be and what to do. According to Burden (2020), a routine facilitates a complex
environment and tells students precisely what to expect, what is predictable of them,
and what satisfactory behavior is.

Establishing classroom routines lets students know what is expected, allowing

them to complete daily tasks quickly and efficiently. Also, classroom routines create
a comfortable and predictable learning environment for students. This can help build
students’ confidence and reduce their anxiety (Nearpod Team, 2023).

My Narrative of Experience

My Experience in Structuring My Classroom (This is just a suggested title.

Narrate here your unique experience in structuring the classroom. Describe how
you make your classroom ready and inviting to students.

“MY EXPERIENCES IN STRUCTURING MY CLASSROOM”

When we were deployed at La Filipina National High School, the school was
already implementing a pure face-to-face class. It was March 1, 2023, when I met my
students in the two sections that I’ll be handling. I was very excited because, finally,
it would be my turn to teach and share with them my knowledge of mathematics.
Thus, I was given the opportunity to handle a class. Beforehand. I prepared
everything I needed, especially myself.

At first, structuring a classroom and making it ready are quite difficult. This
is due to the fact that it was my very first time being in this situation. However, with
the proper guidance of my dear cooperating teacher, all of it becomes easier.

In structuring a classroom, before I start my class, I usually prepare all the

things I need, such as setting up the PowerPoint presentation, putting the learning
objectives on the board, and arranging the seats. And I start my class with a prayer
and greetings. Followed by setting clear classroom rules and an energizer, then a
short review of their previous lesson. Later, after that, is the lesson proper. That will
be the time where I can utilize the learner-centered approach, and while I am
conducting my lesson, I also ask several questions to random students that require
their higher-order thinking skills. Assessing their understanding of the lesson comes
last, through giving them work sheets.

My Reflections

What are your realizations in structuring the classroom? If you will already
have a classroom in the future, how will you establish daily routines? What strategies
are you going to employ? Why is it important to establish routines?

Structuring a classroom is not an easy task. I have come to realize that

the first thing a teacher should do is to create a safe and conducive
environment for learning, thus setting a goal where learners will be educated,
literate and keeping them learning.

If ever I am given a chance to handle a classroom in the future, I will

establish routines and rules that will focus on the teaching-learning process
and aim to assist students in achieving the learning outcomes. I will also
utilize strategies and/or approaches that will help me address the needs of
each learner. Moreover, I will also ensure to craft learning activities that will
give students an opportunity to enhance their interpersonal and
collaborative skills. Aside from that, I will also encourage the learners to be
participative; for instance, I will give them a problem that has to be solved on
the board.

Taking everything into account, the importance of structuring a

classroom with clear classroom rules and routines enables students to feel
safe, comfortable, and confident. Students will be able to express themselves
without hesitation or worrying about being bullied by their classmates and/or
other students.

My Journey Begins with a Single Step

This learning episode centers on the first learning

activity given to me by my cooperating teacher. This gives details of a clearer
picture of the steps I have followed to complete the tasks. This will also
showcase how I did in the preparation of instructional materials for my first
activity. I will also share the lessons learned in making my activity a success or a
failure.

My Directions

To do the tasks, I should be able to:

 Listen well to the instructions of my cooperating

teacher.
 Prepare for the assigned tasks.
 Perform the assigned tasks/activity well.

I feel I can do these tasks because I trust my capabilities and

skills as a pre-service teacher. I am also that person who really pays attention,
follows directions clearly, and is good enough at time management, which I think
is important in order for me to complete the tasks in no time. Moreover, I will
ensure that I apply all the learning I acquired and the tips and suggestions that
were given to me by my cooperating teacher. And in times of doing the task, I
always exert efforts and do my best to attain good results or remarks. Above all, I
am certain that completing these tasks will be possible with the help and guidance
of my cooperating teacher.

My Tasks

To prepare for my first activity, I will consider the PLAN, DO, CHECK,
ACT (PDCA), this is a project management tool designed Edwards Deming. It is
also called the Deming Cycle.

PLAN. This is to identify and analyze the episode/

problem.

DO. This is to develop and test potential solutions/

procedures to the episode.

CHECK. This is to analyze and measure the

episode in an informal way.

ACT. This is to implement the best solutions

/procedures.

With the above model, I will complete the task matrix below.

MATHEMATICS 10: A JAR OF QUESTIONS

Title of the Activity
PDCA Model Things to do
The teacher will prepare the questions for oral
PLAN recitation and will give the students a piece of paper
containing numbers. The teacher will also prepare
popsicle sticks with numbers.
When the teacher picks a popsicle stick, the students
DO who have the same number as the popsicle stick will be
the one to answer the question.
The activity only involves a popsicle stick, a piece of
paper and will utilize a PowerPoint presentation for the
CHECK questions. Thus, the materials are available and easy to
use. Also, in this activity, students are guided to see if they
really understand the topic that was just discussed.
ACT The students will be given a reward – a pen and 5
points – if they answer the questions correctly. If not, they
will still receive 3 points, which will be added to their
scores in their quiz.

discussed.

My Analysis

What benefits I gain from using the PDCA Model? What makes my activity a
success or a failure? What I must do next to improve the activity.

The PDCA Model is an excellent tool for determining what actions to

follow in order to succeed while planning and carrying out a learning activity.
The advantages of implementing this approach are that it truly helps me smooth
the transition of my class discussion, as well as knowing the steps that I need to
take to have a good outcome.

In my opinion, what makes my activity successful is the effort I put in to

creating a lesson plan and putting it into action. I would consider the activity to
be successful once the students achieved all the learning objectives of the lesson
and/or activity. And a failure when the students failed to learn anything from the
discussion and did not engage in the activity.

I typically take the opinions and input of my cooperating teacher while

refining my activity. His instruction allows me to identify my flaws and modify
my activities to make it more successful and engaging.
My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here your First Activity experience. Be creative in writing

both the title and the contents.

“A JAR OF QUESTIONS: MY FIRST LEARNING ACTIVITY”

The day before March 15, 2023, I had already submitted my lesson plan,
instructional materials, and PowerPoint presentation to my cooperating teacher so
that he could check them before executing them on my first teaching demonstration
in the 3rd quarter of mathematics 10. He then gave me some guidelines and
corrected some errors in my lesson plan. He also provided me with some ideas and
tips on how I could put the plan into action. For instance, he gave some instructions
on the best teaching strategy or approach that I could utilize in my first
demonstration.

I started my class with the usual routine, such as opening prayers and
greetings. Then, I collected and checked their assignments through a board work
activity. Afterwards, we did the motivational activity, followed by the proper
discussion. Later, after the discussion and a short review of the topic, we started the
activity entitled "A Jar of Questions,", an oral recitation type of activity.

In this activity, I already prepared the instructional materials, such as the

popsicle sticks, the papers containing numbers, and the set of questions. We
performed the activity first by letting the students pick a piece of paper from the
box, the papers contained numbers. Then, I will pick a popsicle stick, and whoever
has the same number as me will be the one to answer the question. The questions
are on the inside of a jar. There are three questions, so there are also three jars in
total. The students have the freedom to choose which jar they want to open.

The activity was enjoyable because it imprinted pressure and excitement on

each student's face as I pick a popsicle stick from the cup. And I'm also happy that
the majority of the students are eager to engage and volunteer to answer the
questions from the jars.

My Reflections

In here, I am rating my accomplishment using the continuum.

I RATED my accomplishment of my task 4 .

BECAUSE, I am very satisfied with the activity and the students are having fun, it
is also evident on the outcome of their evaluation that they have learned effectively.

I THINK I CAN DO BETTER BY providing more questions that enable students

to think logically and do board work at the same time.

I LEARNED that the students’ interest and active participation will depend on
how engaging and challenging the activity was.

planning

My Tasks

I will define lesson plans and show the different types.

 Definitions of Lesson Plans

A lesson plan is a roadmap for a teacher to follow when facilitating a

lesson. It usually comprises the learning objectives, how the goals will be
fulfilled, and a strategy to assess how effectively the goals were met (usually
through homework assignments). According to Stauffer (2019), a lesson plan
helps teachers be more effective in the classroom by providing a detailed
outline to follow each period. This ensures that every bit of the class time is
spent teaching new concepts and having meaningful discussion.

Some educators and experts of teaching have different view of the

definition of lesson plan. It is said that the lesson plan is a plan for learning.
As is true in most activities, that the quality of planning affects the quality of
result (Gilbert, 2011). Lesson plan can be time consuming, but the results are
worth the effort.

 Types of Lesson Plans

a) DETAILED LESSON PLAN

 A detailed plan covers everything and gets teachers fully
prepared for the lesson ahead. It covers what to teach and all
the activities students will complete that lesson.

b) SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN

 Semi-detailed plans are less intricate than detailed, but they
still focus on what you want to cover for that subject on that
day. They act as a general game plan for what will go on in the
lesson.

c) UNDERSTANDING BY DESIGN (UBD)

 Understanding by design is more of a framework. This
"backward design" looks at outcomes first to design
curriculum units and is focused on improving student
achievement using it.
Schools vary in lesson plan format.

In this space, present a screenshot or scanned copy of the lesson plan

format required by your cooperating school. Confer with your cooperating teacher
on how to go about the template to guide you in making the plan.
My cooperating teacher required me to make a 4A’s semi-detailed
lesson plan. He also gave me a template to be used.

Signature of Cooperating Teacher

I. MY THOUGHTS ON WRITING MY FIRST LESSON PLAN

In designing my first lesson plan, it was quite difficult and challenging. I

don’t have any books for my reference, and I am still confused about what
activities I should utilize that will make the discussion engaging and fun.
Gladly, my cooperating teacher provided me with some of his resources,
such as books and modules. Additionally, I also find it difficult to make a
lesson plan that will be consumed in only 1 hour, but through the tips and
suggestions that my cooperating teacher gave me, I was able to implement
my plan and manage the class thoroughly.

II. AREAS OF THE PLAN THAT I FIND IT EASY TO WRITE

The areas of the lesson plan that I find easy to write are the abstraction,
application, and evaluation. It is because I can just look into my references,
which are the modules and the books, for information and the scope of the
lesson.

III. AREAS OF THE PLAN THAT I FIND CHALLENGING TO WRITE

In my perspective, the areas of the lesson plan that I find challenging to
write are the learning objectives and the activities that must be connected to
the lesson or the topic. Creating an activity is not actually difficult, but the
hardest part was relating it to the objectives and the subject matter.

My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here your experience in planning, writing the lesson plan, checking
and revising and other thoughts you have had.

One of the most difficult aspects of my teaching internship experience

was developing a lesson plan, a PowerPoint presentation, and instructional
materials. I had to work for 5 to 6 hours merely to complete 1 or 2 lesson
plans.

At first, it was hard since I was entrusted with creating a lesson plan for
the first topic of the grade 10 third quarter. This required me to go through the
preceding topic that was discussed in their second quarter. Additionally, I also
find it hard to craft activities that are related to the content of the lesson and
can help achieve the learning objectives. I also had to assess the learners’
earning interests, particularly how to cope with them. After making a lesson
plan, I thought it was perfect and ready for implementation until my
cooperating teacher checked it and found out that there are still some minor
revisions to make, such as including complete solutions for all examples,
posing a question before the students can share their ideas, and using words
that students are familiar with. Even though I carefully planned my lesson, I
will be unable to apply it in class until it is approved by my cooperating
teacher.

To summarize, my experiences in creating, reviewing, and revising the

lesson plan were very exhilarating. However, these experiences, as well as the
constructive criticism and ideas of my cooperating teacher, will undoubtedly
help me improve as an intern at La Filipina National High School, and as a
future educator.
My Reflections

As a teacher I need to prepare a lesson plan so that I will be instructed

on how to manage my class and ensure that the students grasp the lesson
and accomplish the results that are required of them at the end of the lesson.
The lesson plan will help me identify what teaching tactics and instructional
resources I can use to assist myself and the students achieve the learning
objectives. As a result, it is vital that the teacher prepares a lesson before
conducting a class discussion since it will serve as the basis for what must be
completed. Furthermore, because all the necessary information is already
included in the lesson plan, the flow of the class will be seamless. This will
allow me to make the class discussion more organized and will give me
directions for going through the whole session.

I will write here the factors that affect my choice of Instructional Materials.
 The factors that I usually consider upon choosing and creating an
instructional material are the availability of resources, and its purpose and
relatedness to the topic or lesson. Moreover, I also consider the ability
level of the students, as well as the goals of the lesson. Above, the
instructional material must supplement the content of the lesson, help the
students learn new concepts, and provide practice opportunities.

Next, I will present here the Characteristics of Effective Instructional Materials.

 The primary function of instructional materials is to help teachers facilitate
the teaching-learning process. The characteristics of effective instructional
materials must be durability, portability, and relevancy. In creating
instructional materials, we must guarantee that they will last for a longer
period of time so that the efforts we render to have them will not be wasted
in a single glance. We also have to consider that the material must be easy
to handle and carry, so that you can take it with you wherever you teach.
Additionally, it must be relevant to the topic or lesson you are into. We
must remember that the use of instructional materials is to ease the burden
of teaching and enable students to understand the subject matter.

My Analysis

In preparing my instructional materials, I realized that:

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS MUST BE relevant to the subject matter and
must supplement the content of the lesson. Also, the materials must be accessible
and durable so that they will last longer and be easy to use.
s

I NEED TO PREPARE INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS SO THAT it will

motivate my students and may help them increase their interest in learning. Also,
to help them formulate or generate ideas that will make the learning process faster
and easier.

My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here the experience of planning, writing and using the

instructional materials.

Aside from the lesson plan, planning and creating instructional materials is
also one of the hardest aspects of my internship journey. I have to think countless
times before I can finalize and decide what materials I will utilize. In planning and
generating instructional materials, I usually have a lot of considerations to make.
Thus, my instructional materials must be durable, portable, and relevant to the topic
I am teaching.

At first, I find it quite difficult to make instructional materials since I have

to ensure that they will serve their purpose of supplementing the content of the
lesson and making the teaching-learning process faster and easier. Additionally, I
must also consider the availability of the materials, if they're suitable for the ability
level of the students, and if they will help them better understand the lesson.
However, I find it satisfying once the class likes it and appreciates my simple
instructional material, especially if my cooperating teacher gives positive feedback
about it.

My Reflections
In here, I will ask my cooperating teacher to rate my instructional
materials I prepared in the classroom. I will use this scale in rating my instructional
materials.
5 Outstanding
4 Very Satisfactory
3 Satisfactory
2 Fair
1 Needs Improvement

Are my instructional materials… 5 4 3 2 1

2. aligned with objectives

3. easy to prepare

4. durable/sturdy

5. appealing to the learners

6. highly interactive

7. colourful

8. easy to manipulate

9. practical/ useful

10. less expensive/economical?

Total Score: 47 Average Score (Total Score ÷ 10): 4.7

After analyzing my score sheet, I realized that my instructional material was

reliable since it assisted both me and the students in meeting the learning
objectives. Also, I've realized that the more the instructional material helps students
grasp the lesson, the more effective it is. Beforehand, we should always check our
lesson plan, especially the content of the lesson and the learning objectives, in order
to create instructional materials with relevance that will aid students’ needs in the
teaching-learning process.

My First Assessment Tool

This learning episode will highlight my preparation with my first assessment

tool governed by the rules on constructing test. This will also showcase how I will
improve on the test based on the suggestions of my Cooperating Teacher.

My Directions

To do my first assessment tool, I will:

Implement the tool.

Revise and make final draft.

Let the cooperating teacher evaluate/ review the

assessment tool.

Prepare the test items.

Confer with the cooperating regarding the assessment

tool required.
My Tasks

To give me bright ideas in preparing my first assessment tool, I shall be guided

by important concepts. Hence, I need to answer the following questions.
1. Where can I seek help to prepare my first assessment tools?
 In preparing my first assessment tools, the people who can possibly
help me are my cooperating teacher and his co-teachers. Aside from
them, I can also utilize the books and modules from the library and
the one provided by my cooperating teacher.

2. After my research, here are the points I learned to remember in preparing for
my tests.
 Upon preparing, I learned that I must consult first with my
cooperating teacher about the tools needed for a specific topic or
lesson and evaluate its accessibility and authenticity as well. This
also enables me to determine if there’s a need to revise or reorganize
the assessment tools.

3. The Following are the Types of Tests.

 Diagnostic Testing - It is frequently performed at the beginning of a new
educational period, such as when learners begin learning a new topic. The
test includes topics that will be discussed in future lessons.

 Formative Testing - This type of assessment is used to evaluate student

learning. It is used during a lecture to allow students to demonstrate their
understanding of the material or the lesson.

 Benchmark Testing - This form of assessment is used to determine if

students have mastered a certain topic, and it can include some or all the
content presented up to that point. The tests are designed to inform
teachers about whether learners understand the material covered.

 Summative Testing - This type of assessment tool is used at the end of the
quarter, to assess how much content students learned overall. This type of
testing is similar to benchmark testing, but instead of only covering one
unit, it cumulatively covers everything students have been spending time
on throughout the quarter.
The things I need to consider when preparing my first assessment tool (activity
sheet, quiz, chapter test, worksheets, etc.)
Lesson Objectives:

a. Set clear objectives.

b. Assessment tools to be utilized.

Nature of Learners:

b. Summative

Number of Items:

a. Formative – 5 to 10 items
b. Summative – 10 to 20 items

Level of Difficulty:

a. Depends on the scope of the

specific topic or lesson.

Key to correction:

a. Depends on the rubric used by

the teacher for evaluation.

In here, I will write as many ideas as possible about tests. I shall use the first letter

My Analysis
I will complete these structured frames:

1. We need Assessment Tools because this will help both the teachers and the
students determine the students' knowledge and progress throughout the
teaching-learning process. Also, it can be used to identify students' strengths
and weaknesses and areas for improvement.

2. In preparing my first Assessment Tool, I need the following things: the three
domains (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective) when crafting learning
objectives, the lesson to be covered, and the type of assessment tool to be
utilized, but the most important thing is the connection of the assessment tool
to the learning objectives, because these are the essential things that assure us
that the assessment tool is valid, reliable, and useful on the part of the
students. Above all, preparing an assessment tool would be easy with the
proper guidance of my cooperating teacher.
My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here the experience of planning, preparing and implementing my

assessment tool.

In my journey as an intern, I can also consider planning and crafting

assessment tools a difficult but meaningful experience that I had. This is because
we have a lot of considerations to make that should be remembered.

I personally seek help from my cooperating teacher about the appropriate

assessment tool that I will utilize that is also aligned to the subject matter and the
learning objectives. Aside from that, I also let my cooperating teacher check and
evaluate my assessment tool before implementing it in the class. This allows me to
know if there’s a need for a revision or reorganization of the tool, and to ensure its
validity and reliability.

And during the implementation of the assessment tool, I was actually nervous
since it was my first time conducting an assessment in an actual class, but later on, I
found it effective and satisfying once it went well and the students were able to
participate and answer the assessment thoroughly.

Needs Improvement
I will reflect on the areas needing of improvement when preparing
tests because there are sometimes in which I have lapses in making and
implementing the assessment tools, such as typographical error or delivering

to reflect on what they are about to give and what they have already delivered
to the class, thus there is always a room for improvement for every teacher to
become effective and successful.

Designing / Structuring the Classroom and

Bulletin Board

In this episode, I should be able to design the classroom bulletin boards or

instructional boards that will appropriately align the designs with the
lessons/activities of my class. In doing these, I will make sure to closely work well
with my cooperating teacher.

My Directions

To reach my goals, I need to do the following using this acronym.

B egin with a theme.

O rganize ideas on what to place on the bulletin board.

A rrange your ideas in creative and artistic ways.

R ecreate ideas using illustrations/ design/ figures and colors.

D esign the classroom bulletin board.

My Tasks

I will post here the bulletin board I designed and the classroom that I
structured. Also, I will include posting here the bulletin boards that struck me
most in my cooperating school.

BULLETIN BOARD OF MY COOPERATING

SCHOOL
My Analysis

Observing the varied bulletin boards in my cooperating school, I feel

that the following areas can still be improved because there is some information
posted on the board that is not detailed and is not updated. Also, the fonts used
were quite small, which made it a bit harder to read for the students, especially
those who have vision problems. I hope this can still be improved, especially in
posting updated information and/or announcements so that the students will be
fully aware of the current and upcoming activities.

My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here the experience of structuring or designing classrooms

and bulletin boards.

Designing and decorating is one of my personal hobbies, since it is the only

way that I can showcase my ideas and creativity. Unfortunately, I wasn’t given a
chance to design my own bulletin board because as we were deployed, the
classroom already had its own bulletin board, and it was my cooperating teacher
who did all the hard work in planning and designing. However, I did help him in
terms of printing and posting the needed information, such as the updates or
schedules for the classroom activities and some announcements from the admin.
Moreover, all sections have the same classroom structure, in which the seating
arrangements will be divided into two columns, giving an aisle at the center. Thus,
my cooperating teacher instructed me to maintain and not reorganize the
arrangement of the chairs.

Upon observing my cooperating teacher do the bulletin board, I realized how

challenging it is to work in the real world of teaching, where flexibility matters the
most. In designing a bulletin board, we must know its purpose, wherein it is not
just used for posting announcements but can also assist the learners in the
absorption of new learning.
My Reflections

1.) As a student teacher, I need to learn how to structure bulletin boards so

that I can design my own bulletin board once I have my own classroom in the
future. With the help of my experiences and all the learning I gathered during
my internship, I can create one that is beneficial for the students to be aware of
the important activities, either current or upcoming.

2.) What lessons did I learn when structuring/designing my bulletin boards?

 In designing a bulletin board, I learned that it must be appealing
and will catch the attention of the readers – the students, and the
posters or the announcements should be timely and relevant.
Aside from that, it must have a good combination of colors, and the
text should be big enough for the students to read, especially those
with vision problems.

My Analysis
1. Why do I need to participate in school activities?
 As part of my teaching internship journey, I have to participate in some
school activities to gain experience on how to manage the class and
prepare the needed materials for a particular activity. Also, it would be a
great opportunity for me to interact with the students and their parents.
These experiences will be beneficial for my future endeavors, especially
in the field of teaching.

2. What insights did I gain after joining the school activities?

 After joining some school activities, I realized how hard it is to
implement a particular activity. Beforehand, we must have a proper plan
for the flow of the activity, prepare all the needed materials, and give
clear instructions to the students. Thus, everyone who’s part of the
activity must show cooperation and unity in order to make the activity
successful.

My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here your experience in joining or spearheading an activity .

As an intern, joining some school activities was one of the most meaningful
experiences I ever had. This gives me an opportunity to learn how to plan, prepare,
and implement a particular activity.

One of the school activities in which I participated was the general PTA
meeting. Two days before the meeting, me and my cooperating teacher discussed the
flow of the meeting and the needed materials to be used during the meeting, such as
the PowerPoint presentation and the certificates, but since I was busy with my
afternoon classes, he decided to make the PPT and the certificates on his own. On
the day of the meeting, I was nervous because it was my first time meeting the
parents of the students, but when my cooperating teacher introduced me to them, I
felt happy as they welcomed me and greeted me with a smile. In this activity, I
assisted my cooperating teacher in distributing the cards and giving certificates to
the honor students. The activity went well even though not all parents were able to
attend, and we ended the activity with some messages and announcements. The
other school activities in which I participated were general cleaning, earthquake
drills, and the celebration of Women’s Month.

My Reflections
Complete the statement.

After the activity, I learned that Teachers do not just connect themselves with
their students, but also with their parents. These connections will be beneficial for
both the parents and the teacher, as they can work together to teach and help the
students achieve their desired goals in life. The activity, such as the General PTA
Meeting, could be a great opportunity for them to talk about the progress of the
students and to address the concerns of the teacher and the parents with regards to
the performance of the students.

My cooperating teacher was happy, especially that the activity went well and
the concerns and/or problems were properly addressed. He also thanked me and
appreciated my active involvement and participation. And in my case, I also give
my appreciation to my cooperating teacher for letting me experience that type of
activity.

My Analysis
1. Doing other non-teaching duties is beneficial in my life as a student intern
because it also adds to my experience. I believe being a teacher entails a lot of
responsibilities, not just teaching the students in the four-cornered room but
also extending their services outside the classroom. For instance, a teacher
must lead the students in maintaining the cleanliness of their surroundings so
that they will feel safe and comfortable as if they were inside the school
premises. Moreover, sorting and distribution of modules, helping the quizzers
review their lesson, and managing the class on their DEAR Program are a few
of my non-teaching duties. It is good to have these duties, as they provide me
with practical experience that I can use in the real world of teaching.

2. These are the values/virtues I have developed / strengthened when I rendered

other non-teaching duties: Be kind, responsible, and helpful. I believe these
are the characteristics that we must possess when doing non-teaching duties.
As a pre-service teacher, it is vital to be kind and responsible to anyone who
asks for our help and assistance.

My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here the experience of rendering services or offering help other than
teaching.

Providing services other than teaching the students in a four-cornered room

is quite fulfilling. Throughout my journey as an intern, I realized that the three
characteristics that a teacher must have, especially when doing non-teaching duties,
are being kind, responsible, and helpful.

A few of the non-teaching duties that I did during my internship were:

helping my cooperating teacher in sorting and distributing the modules to the
students; helping his quizzers in reviewing all the lessons, addressing their queries,
and providing them with a series of math problems as their exercise (luckily, one of
them secured a place in the math quiz bee competition); and handling the class
during their DEAR time. I also render my service by helping my co-pre-service
teachers clean the home economics room. Another satisfying service I provided was
managing my advisory class as they cleaned the area that was assigned to them. At
the end of the day, my cooperating teacher always thanks me for the assistance and
help I gave. And it felt overwhelming when they appreciated my efforts in helping
them.

My Reflections

After rendering my services in my advisory class, Grade 10 – Gmelina, and in

the home economics room, I learned these skills: Helpful, responsible, and kindness.
It also honed my discipline and observation skills.

And I know that these will be beneficial as I become a teacher in the near
future. The experiences will help me become a more efficient teacher both inside
and outside the classroom. Nevertheless, I am still open to a lot of experiences that will
equip me with knowledge and enable me to become the best version of myself as a
teacher.

I will also do the following to ensure that things will go well during my

1. I will go to the library and research on my topic or have a pre-conference with

my Cooperating Teacher / Practicum Supervisor / peers to enrich my lesson
plan. Write my outline / ideas here.
2. Write my lesson plan.
3. Execute my lesson plan.

My Analysis

I will answer the following questions.

1. What went well in my lesson? Why?

 The class discussion went well because the students were very
participative and motivated to do the activities given to them. They
also volunteered to answer some questions and/or problems on the
board. And I’m happy that my first demonstration went successfully.
2. What did not go well? Why?

 What I believe went wrong during my class discussion was that

students asked fewer questions, and the order and discipline of the
students inside the classroom and the group activity were quite a
mess. As a result, I got 4 in these areas on our rating sheet.

3. What did my students learn?

 My students learn about solving permutations given n and r. I gave them

a brief definition of permutation as well as its formula. The students also
learned how to solve real-life problems involving permutations.

4. What was learned about planning?

 It is very important to plan first before facilitating the lesson, because

this will serve as your guide for what you will do. Once you have a well-
organized plan for your lesson, including the activities and strategies that
you will be utilizing, the teaching-learning process will become easier
and faster.

5. What was learned about teaching?

 In terms of teaching, I learned how important it is to connect the

lesson across fields and to real-life situations. Thus, teaching and
learning must go beyond the curriculum. Also, I have realized that I
still have a lot of flaws and weaknesses that I need to work out and
improve. For instance, facilitating the group activities, helping the
students articulate their ideas and thinking processes, and asking
questions as well.

6. What improvements will I make to be more effective in my class?

 To be honest, I do not consider myself an effective teacher. I still have a

lot of improvements to make, particularly in probing learners'
understanding, encouraging convergent and divergent thinking, and the
like. With this, I will certainly ask my cooperating teacher for some
advice on how I can improve my way of teaching. I will also ensure to
apply his suggestions and feedback to my next class and for the rest of
my internship journey. I believe that with the help and proper guidance
of my cooperating teacher, I will be able to improve and do better next
time.
How do I rate my demonstration using the following rubrics?

Rate Equivalent Verbal Description

skills.

Unacceptable Teaching performance is inadequate

1 Performance to the set standards.

Explain your Rating:

I am rating my first demonstration teaching on a scale of 4, which

is equivalent to exceeding expectations. Also, based on my rating sheet,
my cooperating teacher gave me an overall score of 4.83, which is
equivalent to outstanding. This makes me realize and believe that I still
have a lot of improvements to make, especially in my classroom
management and questioning skills, where I got low mean scores.
Nevertheless, I can tell that my performance exceeds the expectations of
my cooperating teacher, as he gave me good feedback and comments. I am
happy that my first demonstration was a success.
My Narrative of Experience

Narrate here the experience of rendering services or your

demonstration teaching. Highlight the teaching and learning
experience.
It was March 17, 2023, when I did my first demonstration. Before that day, I
submitted my lesson plan and the activity sheets to my cooperating teacher for
checking. Luckily, I don’t have any revisions to make, as he approved it and
allowed me to implement it in the class.

My cooperating teacher let me have a practice during my first period in

Section Gmelina, his advisory class. After the class, he gave me some insights and
tips that I can use to improve my performance. To be honest, I was nervous, as it
was my first time being observed and rated by him.

During my first demonstration, it was in Section Acacia (SPJ Class), where

the students were above average—they were smart and skilled. I chose this section
because I know that my class discussion will be easy since they are fast learners. I
am happy that the class went well and that the students were able to participate and
do the activities given to them. Afterwards, my cooperating teacher provides me
with immediate feedback, comments, and suggestions orally. Few of his comments
were about my classroom management; thus, I should not tolerate the students
going outside the classroom without my permission, and I should be strict in terms
of imposing order and discipline in the class. Other than that, he commends my way
of teaching, as he thinks that it is unique and very different from his, especially in
delivering the lesson. Additionally, he’s glad that the students were having fun
doing the board work and group work activities.

All in all, it was challenging but a meaningful experience in which I had lots
of realizations. For instance, I realized how important it is to be creative in terms of
delivering the lesson in a simple and fun manner, which allows the students to
engage and be more participative in the class. Moreover, it is also great to do
activities that encourage unity and collaboration.
My Reflections

1. After the demonstration lessons, I felt relieved and proud of myself. I am also
happy that my first demonstration was a success. Also, I am glad that my
cooperating teacher provided me with some suggestions and comments that I
can use in my next demonstration.

2. After my demonstration I realized that being creative in terms of delivering the

lesson is very important, because this can be a great way for the students to be
participative. Aside from that, it is also good to have fun activities that
encourage students’ collaboration and unity.

3. Things I learned from my learners.

 Multiple intelligence is indeed evident.
 Learning while having fun.
 Express and share your thoughts and/or ideas.
 Appreciate the importance of real-life applications involving
mathematics.
