(Using Right angled Triangle)

θ = Assumed angle

Hypotenuse = The opposite side of the right

angle of right-angled triangle

Adjacent side = The side of the right-angled

triangle which remains adjacent with the

assumed angle (θ)

Opposite side = The of the right angled triangle

which is opposite to the assumed angle ( θ)


sinθ = Opposite side/Hypotenuse

cosθ = Adjacent side/Hypotenuse

tanθ = Opposite side/Adjacent side

cosecθ = Hypotenuse/Opposite side

secθ = Hypotenuse/Adjacent side

cotθ = Adjacent side/Opposite side

(sin = sine)

(cos = cosine)

(tan = tangent)

(cosec = cosecant)
(sec = secant)

(cot = cotangent)

sinθ = 1/ cosecθ

cosθ = 1/secθ

tanθ = 1/cotθ

cosecθ = 1/sinθ

cotθ = 1/tanθ

sin(A-B) = sinAcosB - cosAsinB

cos(A+B) = cosAcosB - sinAsinB


cos(A-B) = cosAcosB + sinAsinB

tan(A+B) = (tanA+tanB)/(1-tanAtanB)

tan(A-B) = (tanA-tanB)/(1+tanAtanB)

cot(A+B) = (cotAcotB-1)/(cotB+cotA)

cot(A-B) = (cotAcotB+1)/(cotB-cotA)

sin(A+B) + sin(A-B) = 2sinAcosB

sin(A+B) - sin(A-B) = 2cosAsinB

cos(A+B) + cos(A-B) = 2cosAcosB

cos(A-B) - cos(A+B) = 2sinAsinB

sinC + sinD = 2sin(C+D)/2cos(C-D)/2
