Rotor Earth Fault Protection Working Principle by Abrham

The document discusses rotor earth fault protection working principle. It explains how fault current IG flows during a fault condition, reducing insulation between the rotor winding and ground. It also describes how control voltage and measured voltage values are used to calculate the measured rotor earth fault value RE using Kirchhoff's voltage and current laws.

During normal condition the insulation b/n Rotor winding and natural impedance have been
normal but if there is fault condition/ fault current IG flow in to ground reducing the insulation
of natural impedance which is resistance and capacitance and make loop through the shaft brush
that fault current to circulate.

Control voltage is 2UG because it is square wave voltage UG (+) and UG (-) is equal to 2UG during
normal /fault condition.
Measured voltage is UM or IG during normal condition UM or IG is zero but when fault occurred
due to DC component the fault IG is at UG(+) continuous so UM will be at the positive IG1 +IG2 =
2IG ~ 2UM now using KVL/ KCL we can calculate the measured RE or IG or UM.
