Now read the text below and do the activities that follow.

The Milky Way is the galaxy which includes the solar system. It is a large cluster
of over 100 billion stars, planets, gas and dust all assembled and held together by
gravity.

Earth in the third farthest planet from the sun. Unlike the other planets, it’s the
only habitable place in our galaxy. Compared to the other seven planets, Earth has an
amazing gaseous atmosphere which is believed to be one of the factors, along with
water, which make life on this planet possible.

Planet Mars is more like Earth than any other planet in the solar system. Both
planets have valleys, mountains and even weather. However, the two planets still differ
in many aspects. For example, while Earth is 12,742 km in diameter, Mars is smaller
than Earth with a much thinner atmosphere and a completely frozen water supply.

Suppose you went out in space, beyond Earth’s atmosphere, what would you see?
Besides the other planets in our solar system, you would see other celestial bodies such
as: asteroids, comets, meteors and billions of other objects all travelling in the vast
space out there. The view would be definitely breathtaking!!!.

Is Space Travel Worth it?

“It’s too much money spent on nothing. Shouldn’t we invest those wasted
billion dollars to fix more serious problems here on Earth?!”Over the last
years, many people, across the globe, started to question the worth of space
exploration and research. They argue that space travel is a prestigious wild
dream whose coasts outweigh the benefits.

Though many may disagree but space exploration is still important not
only to scientific research but also to the future of human race. Ongoing
studies about alien environments in areas like: prokaryotes, materials
science and zero- gravity and its effects on human physiology can lead to
potential discoveries in medical treatment which in turn would give a push
to both technical and technological research and innovation.

In addition to that, the study of the cosmos, planets, asteroids, comets and
other heavenly bodies help us form a better understanding of the origins of
this world and it enables us to protect our planet Earth if ever an alien object
headed our way. More importantly, scientists believe that outer space
contains a diversity of resources and materials including: water, iron,
magnesium. All can be used to provide raw materials and energy helping
release the pressure humans put on Earth’s resources.

All in all, despite all opposition to space exploration, it remains one of the
great achievements of mankind. The more we explore space, the more we
adore the beauty of this universe and the more our curiosity triggers us to
solve all the mysteries and challenges we keep facing.
