OVERVIEW:
Literacy, a factor in measuring the progress and development of a nation.
The Department of Education’s focus on reading literacy led to
interconnecting programs which all aim to ensuring that ever learner will able to
read and therefore be a holistic learner since reading is essential in learning.
Since, assessment is an integral part of reading remediation, developing
materials to help teachers identify students’ literacy level is important to provide
effective remediation.
Project CARE is a compilation of authentic reading materials used by English
teachers during the pre-reading assessment and post-assessment of the Isabela
School of Arts and Trades in the Junior High School.
Project CARE provides teachers basis in conducting remedial classes by
identifying the literacy level of students and where remediation should start.
Although these materials are used by teachers, the proponent thought of
utilizing these materials to be able to cater to the different literacy levels of students.
This would allow teachers to give proper remediation which would largely benefit the
students.
OBJECTIVE/S:
The project aims to:
1. identify learner’s literacy level;
2. determine the functional reading level a learner have achieved with ease; and
3. help teachers conduct pre-reading and post-reading assessment effectively
and efficiently
