Review Module – Analytic Geometry

DISTANCE BETWEEN 2 PTS & DIV. OF LINE SEGMENT

1. Point A is located at (9, 7) and Point B at (3, -1). Find the
distance between the two points.

2. Solve for the midpoint between A (1, 2) and B (7, 6).

3. The segment formed from the points (4, -3) and (-2, 6) is to be
divided into 3 equal parts. Find the point of division nearest to
the point (4, -3).

4. The segment from (3, -2) to (-1, 4) is extended three times its
own length. Find the terminal point.

AREA OF POLYGON
1 𝑥1 𝑥2 𝑥3 𝑥1
𝐴= | |
2 𝑦1 𝑦2 𝑦3 𝑦1

1
𝐴 = [(𝑥1 𝑦2 + 𝑥2 𝑦3 + 𝑥3 𝑦1 ) − (𝑦1 𝑥2 + 𝑦2 𝑥3 + 𝑦3 𝑥1 )]
2
1. Find the area of the 5-sided polygon given the coordinates of
its vertices to be (2, -3), (5, 5), (8, -1), (0, 0), (-3, 2)

EQUATION OF LINE
1. Find the equation of a line with a slope of -3/5 and contains the
point (2, 7).

2. A line passes through Point A (5, 1) and Point B (2, 6).

a. Find the equation of the line

b. Find the x-intercept and y-intercept respectively.

3. Find the equation of the line that passes through (2, 7) and is
a. Parallel to 2x – 3y = 5

b. Perpendicular to 2x + 5y = 7

DISTANCE FROM A POINT TO A LINE & BETWEEN 2 LINES

1. Find the distance of the point (6, 9) to the line 3x = 5y – 12

2. Find the distance between x + 3y = -9 and 2x + 6y = 10

LOCUS OF POINTS
It is a set of all points whose location satisfies or is determined by
one or more specified conditions.

Find the equation of the locus of the following conditions:

1. Equidistant from (4,3) and (2,1)

2. Equidistant from the line y = 4 and the origin
