Asymmetric/Imbalanced EDT for Pattern

Reduction.

Imbalanced input and output channels are considered to be used.

Configuring EDT with imbalanced input & output channels are


considered as an asymmetrical channel EDT Configuration.

For Xpress compactor, the benefits of reducing the number of


output channels are greater than those of reducing the number of
input channels. The idea here is to have less outputs than inputs
since Xpress compactor has improved observability while the input
side has still the same limitations coming from encoding capacity.

Pattern reduction by using more channels on the input and fewer


on the output is design dependent.

Usage is as follows for tessent tool:

SETUP> set edt –input_channel <n> -output_channel <m>

where n is number of scan input channels & m is number of scan


output channels

If the number of input channels is different than the number of


output channels, then for example, for 5 inputs and 3 outputs, the
settings would be:

set edt -input_channel 5 -output_channel 3

set edt pin in 2 edt_channel_in[1]
set edt pin in 3 edt_channel_in[2]
set edt pin in 4 edt_channel_in[3]
set edt pin in 5 edt_channel_in[4]

set edt pin out 2 edt_channel_out[1]
set edt pin out 3 edt_channel_out[2]

Asymmetrical compression Ratio allows to have different number


of scan-in’s and scan-out’s. Higher pattern reduction can be
achieved using this configuration but at the same careful evaluation
of X sources is must when using Asymmetric configuration if design
is more X generation sources.
