OBJECTIVES:
To run a compass traverse
ALTERNATIVES:
1. 1 Smart phone with compass app
2. Chalks
3. Yarn Threads
4. 1 Tape Measure
5. 5 water botttles as range poles
6. Field Note/Paper
7. Pen
PROCEDURE:
1. Drive five range poles firmly into the ground at random distances and random
directions. Designate the corners as A, B, C, D, and E.
2. Set and level the compass at station A.
3. Release the needle of the compass so that it will freely swing on its pivot.
4. Read and record the backward and forward bearing of AB and AE,
respectively.
5. Measure and record distance AB and AE.
6. Transfer the instrument at station B, and hence forward to all following
stations until closure repeating the same procedure.
