By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:-

1. Activity 1 – Warm Up Exercise
a. Teacher greets students happily.
b. Teacher asks students to stand up.
c. Teacher plays a song.
d. Teacher asks students to sing together with class.

2. Activity 2 – Listening to a song


PRE-LESSON
ACTIVITIES

a. Teacher starts the lesson by introducing the concept


of past-tense verbs.
b. Teacher explains that he has a special song to
help them remember these verb forms.
c. Teacher gives a lyric to the students.
d. Teacher asks students to sing along when the
song starts.
e. Teacher plays a song about past tense verbs,
regular and irregular.
f. Teacher repeats the song again.
g. Teacher explains the difference between regular
and irregular past tense verbs.
1. Activity 1 – Verb Charades
a. Teacher prepares the flashcards with a mix of
regular and irregular verbs (each flashcard has a
single verb written on it).
b. Teacher puts all the flashcards into a small box.
c. Teacher explains that students are going to play a
game called “Verb Charades”.
d. Teacher shows the box filled with flashcards to
the students.
e. Teacher plays a game of hot potato to choose
a student to draw a flashcard from the box.
f. Teacher asks the selected student to act out the
verb on the flashcard without speaking while the rest
of the class watches.
g. Teacher asks other students to guess the verb
being acted out.
h. Teacher encourages students to construct a
simple sentence using the verb being acted out.
i. Teacher repeats the game until all flashcards

a. Teacher asks students to open the text book on
page 67.
b. Teacher asks students to take a look at exercise 1.
c. Teacher asks random students to read out
the examples.
d. Teacher asks all students to answer the questions.
e. Teacher asks random students to read through
the finished rules with the class.
f. Teacher discusses all the answers in class.
g. Teacher reminds students that with most regular verbs,
we add -ed to the base form of the verb, but if the
verb ends in -e, students just add -d.

4. Activity 3 - Young Talent Superstars


a. Teacher writes “Young Talent Superstars” on the
whiteboard.
b. Teacher gives a handout with 11 irregular verbs to
each student.
c. Teacher asks students to read the handout.
d. Teacher gives students a worksheet about
“Young Talent Superstars”
e. Teacher asks students to sit in groups.
f. Teacher asks each group to fill in the blank with the
correct answers for “Young Talent Superstars”
passages.
g. Teacher discusses all the answers in class.

5. Activity 4 – Reading comprehension


a. Teacher asks students to sit in pairs.
b. Teacher gives each pair two sheets of paper.
c. Teacher asks students to write Fu Ming Xia on one
piece of paper and Martin on another.
d. Teacher asks every partner to hold one superstar,
and another partner holds one superstar.
e. Teacher explains to students that he will read
questions about the two superstars.
f. Teacher asks students to raise up the correct
superstar based on the questions.
g. Teacher rewards pairs who answer correctly.
1. Activity 1 – Verb analysis
a. Teacher asks students to sit in groups.
b. Teacher gives each student a sports article.
c. Teacher asks a volunteer to read aloud, followed
by others.
d. Teacher rewards to volunteer.
e. Teacher asks each group to read the article again
and circle the past tense verbs they found in the
article.
f. Teacher asks the group with higher-level proficiency
to circle present-tense verb too.
POST-LESSON

g. Teacher asks two groups of high- and low-


proficiency students to do simple presentation about
the verb they found.
h. Teacher asks the higher-level students to change
the present-tense verb to a past tense verb while
presenting.

2. Conclusion
a. Teacher asks random students to state a moral
value they found in today’s lesson.
b. Teacher asks random students to recap today’s
lesson.
c. Teacher concludes today’s lesson by stating the
strength and weakness.
