5.1. Antidifferentiation
Le Thi Thanh Hai

Definition

 A function F is called an antiderivative of a given function f on (a,

b) if F ' ( x)  f ( x) for all x in (a, b).

 If F is an antiderivative of f then G ( x )  F ( x )  C where C is an

arbitrary constant is also an antiderivative of f

 The family of all antiderivatives of f is called the indefinite integral

of f with respect to x. We denote

 f ( x)dx  F ( x)  C

5.6. Introduction to Differential Equation
Le Thi Thanh Hai
Introduction
 Any equation that contains a derivative or differential is called a
differential equation. The following equations are all differential
equations.

dx  dx  dx dt

 The order of a differential equation is the order of the highest

derivative involved in the equation.
 A solution of a differential equation is a function that satisfy the
equation. A general solution is a characterization off all possible
solution of the equation.

Separable Differential Equation

dy g  x 
 A differential equation expressible in the form  is said
dx f  y 
to be separable.

 To solve such an equation
