The Sustainable
CASE STUDY COMPETITION
Guidelines

1. You are required to submit a presentation in PDF format. At Least 3


of the key deliverables must be discussed.

2. Submit the case solution in not more than 6-7 slides excluding the
first and last slide. The introduction slide must contain the Name of all
Team members, Team Name and the Name of the Institution(s).

3. Team Leader must mail the case solution (in PDF format) to
enactus@hyderabad.bits-pilani.ac.in.

Submissions should be named in the following format: Teamname.pdf

4. The deadline for the submission is 23rd April, 11:59 PM. Late
submissions will not be accepted.

5. Use of public information is allowed, but you are required to mention


the sources. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited.

6. The decision of the organising team shall be final.


Problem Statement

Background:

Dharaksha Ecosolutions is a pioneering company in the field of sustainable materials,


leveraging expertise in biotechnology and engineering to tackle pressing
environmental issues. With a focus on addressing air pollution caused by stubble
burning in North India and reducing the harmful effects of plastic and thermocol
accumulation in the packaging industry, Dharaksha has developed a groundbreaking
bio-fabrication process. This process transforms paddy straw waste into a
sustainable alternative to thermocol, offering a solution to both environmental
challenges.

However, despite its innovative approach and potential for significant positive impact,
Dharaksha faces challenges in effectively conveying the value proposition of its
products to potential customers, particularly larger brands in the packaging industry.
The company struggles to close deals with these brands due to perceived high costs
compared to traditional thermocol packaging. While Dharaksha's solution addresses
critical environmental issues, the focus on unit pricing overshadows the compelling
story behind its products, hindering the realisation of its complete value proposition.

Area of Focus for the Problem:

The primary focus is to strategise Dharaksha Ecosolutions' trajectory for future


growth, encompassing both short-term challenges and long-term aspirations.
Participants are tasked with conducting a comprehensive analysis of the company's
current position, identifying key obstacles to scalability, and crafting a bespoke
roadmap that aligns with Dharaksha's vision and values. In addition to addressing
immediate market barriers, participants are encouraged to explore opportunities for
expansion and innovation, laying the groundwork for sustained impact in the coming
years.

Participants should propose strategic recommendations for Dharaksha to improve its


sales and overcome barriers to adoption within the packaging industry which would in
turn increase profitability. These recommendations should focus on effectively
communicating the value proposition of sustainable packaging solutions and outlining
actionable steps to drive market acceptance. Additionally, participants must address
the market access of the company, considering the premium associated with its
products and identifying target customer segments willing to pay for sustainability.
Key Deliverables:

1. Vision and Mission Statement: Draft a vision and mission statement for
Dharaksha Ecosolutions that effectively communicates its purpose and values,
emphasising its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.

2. SWOT Analysis: Conduct a SWOT analysis of Dharaksha Ecosolutions,


examining its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Provide insights into
internal and external factors influencing the company's ability to penetrate the
packaging industry with sustainable solutions.

3. Porter's Five Forces Analysis: Assess the competitive forces within the
packaging industry and identify potential areas of opportunity and risk for Dharaksha
Ecosolutions.

4. Market Expansion Strategy: Explore potential markets for Dharaksha's


sustainable packaging solutions and develop a market expansion strategy to
capitalise on growth opportunities. This strategy should consider geographic-specific
challenges and opportunities and outline a plan for entering new markets while
addressing cost concerns.

5. MOAT Strategy: Devise a MOAT strategy for Dharaksha Ecosolutions to establish


a sustainable competitive advantage in the packaging industry. This strategy should
focus on building barriers to entry, such as intellectual property protection, strategic
partnerships, or proprietary technologies, to defend against competition and maintain
market leadership.

NOTE: You must cover at least 3 of the key deliverables out of the above mentioned.
