VENTILATION

Johnzen V. Pedrosa | BSA – 2B

INDIVIDUAL VENT
- referred to as back vent
- serves as a single trap
- most effective means of
venting fixture trap
- very costly
1. It must be connected as closes as
possible to the fixture traps
2. It should be directly located
underneath or back of the fixture
3. It must be connected to the main
vent above the overflow line of the
fixture
The National Plumbing Code
on distances of vent from trap
seal provides that…
1. Trap Seal Distance ≤ 1.50m
from vent
2. Distance measured along
central line of waste pipe and
central line of vent opening
On branch and individual vent,
▪ vent ≥ 38 mm (1 1/2 “)ɸ, except
for 32 mm (1 1/4”)ɸ waste pipe.
▪ vent pipe ɸ = waste pipe ɸ
▪ branch or main vent ɸ ≥ 1/2 ɸ of
waste pipe.
▪ branch vent ɸ = vent stack ɸ
UNIT VENT
- defined as ventilates to two fixture
traps.
- classified as another form of
individual vent.
-common fixture trap in hotel and
apartment.
CIRCUIT OR LOOP
VENT
- two or more fixture traps are
installed on a horizontal soil.
- reduces the cost of plumbing
installation.
- commonly used in building with
more facilities.
Circuit vent for a battery of
fixture
*1 circuit vent = up to 8 vents
- If there are 14 or 16 water closets,
two pieces of 100mm pipe should be
installed.
- Circuit vent is permitted if two and
not more than 8 wc, pedestal urinals,
trap standard slop sinks or shower
stalls are connected in a series.
RELIEF VENT
- to ventilate the soil and waste pipe
and the connecting branches.
- no specific rule where it will be
connected.
-just a good judgement of the
plumber.
Relief vent on soil branch
On relief vent, plumbing
code provides that:
1. Waste branches which are circuit
vented,shall be provided with relief
vent.
2. The base of the soil stack on tall
buildings should install relief vent
3. Relief vent may be installed at 3-5
floors interval on the soil pipe having
changes in direction.
Relief vent for tall bldgs.
4. Relief vent is sometimes referred to as
Yoke or By-Pass Ventilation.

5. In a circuit vented branch, Relief

vent ɸ ≥ 1/2 ɸ of soil pipe.No case, less
than 38mm ɸ
6. Relief vent used on a change
direction, and at the base of the soil
pipe, ɸ = ɸ main vent. No case less
than 50mm ɸ
7. Yoke vent between main vent
and soil pipe at 5 floor intervals,
ɸ = ɸ main vent .
LOOPED VENT
- type of ventilation used on fixtures in
a room away from partitions.

- common to beauty parlor, barber

shop, dental clinic and operating
room.
- not practical

- used when other methods of

ventilation couldnt be possible.

- ɸ of looped vent the same with ɸ of

the individual vent.
WET VENT
- portion of the vent pipe system
where liquid waste regularly flows.
- in this type of installation, main vent
is eliminated and naturally cost is
reduced.
-proven effective installation on
building of moderate height.
