5. Completed and Incomplete Works:

5.1. Completed Works:

This has truly been a memorable internship for me. Although it was a short
period, I had many opportunities to experience working in various positions and
roles at the Hue Fine Arts Museum. Over the past 6 weeks, I researched and
translated materials about painter Le Ba Dang and sculptor Diem Phung Thi,
introduced their artworks to domestic and international visitors, assisted with the
exhibition “The Beauty of Phu Loc Through Sketch Art,” and wrote reflections
about the Le Ba Dang Art Space and the Diem Phung Thi Space. I had the chance
to apply the knowledge and language skills I learned at university to practical
tasks, completing them quite well and on time. Additionally, I demonstrated a
strong willingness to learn, responsibility, and always strived to complete all tasks
meticulously.

5.2. Incomplete Works:

During this short internship, I could only perform a few key works and did
not have the chance to fully experience all the museum’s responsibilities. I still
haven’t had many opportunities to present and explain in English to foreign
visitors since there weren’t many relevant events during my internship. I wish to
create a social media channel to promote the beauty of the museum to the public,
especially to attract young people to visit. However, due to the limited duration
of the internship and my still developing knowledge of art, I could not
accomplish this goal. In the future, I will strive to deepen my understanding in
this field and may return to assist the museum in a collaborative role.

6. Advantages and Challenges:

6.1. Advantages:

I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge I learned about language,

particularly writing skills, through translating documents (English-Vietnamese
and Vietnamese-English). Researching materials, translating texts related to art,
and writing reflections about the art spaces helped me improve my writing
ability, presentation skills, and clarity of expression.

Interacting with the museum environment and its documents and artworks
familiarized me with many specialized terms in fine arts, history, and
conservation. This expanded my vocabulary in this field.

Additionally, guiding visitors and communicating with colleagues helped me

enhance my communication skills and become more confident when interacting
with others, including domestic and international tourists.

Moreover, I improved my teamwork skills and developed my ability to

collaborate through various tasks and assignments. Balancing time between
different tasks and meeting deadlines was also an important skill I learned while
working at the museum.

Interning at the museum deepened my understanding of the culture, history,

and art of painter Le Ba Dang, sculptorDiem Phung Thi, and Vietnamese culture
and art in general. This not only enriched my knowledge but also provided me
with a deeper insight into preserving and promoting cultural and artistic values
and national identity.

The work environment allowed me to expand my network, giving me the

chance to meet and work with experienced colleagues who possess extensive
knowledge in this field. This is also an opportunity for my future career. The
experience gained from working at the museum will be a significant asset in my
job applications after graduation.
6.2. Challenges:

Professional Challenges: I faced a lack of knowledge regarding art history

and museum studies, as the English Language program primarily focuses on
language. Therefore, during my internship in this environment, I found myself
lacking in-depth knowledge of art history and specialized concepts in the field of
museums.

Difficulty in Finding Information: Searching for information in English,

especially in-depth research materials about art, is often limited in quantity and
predominantly available in Vietnamese. This made it challenging for me to find
the necessary information in English.

Language Barriers: The field of fine arts includes many specialized terms
that not all English Language students are familiar with. Accurately translating
and using these terms requires thorough research and a significant time
investment to avoid confusion and errors.

Guiding Multinational Visitors: When guiding visitors, I had to flexibly

use English as the primary language, applying my analytical skills to convey
information concisely and clearly to the audience.

Nature of the Work: The tasks I handled, such as document preparation,

translation, and exhibition setup, demanded meticulous attention to detail. Each
task required careful planning and detailed organization.

Work Environment: The museum's working environment is often quiet,

which necessitates a degree of self-discipline and the ability to work
independently, ensuring that I do not disturb colleagues and those around me.
7. Self-Assessment:

7.1. Strengths:

First, during my internship, I was always aware of my responsibilities and

proactively sought out and completed the tasks assigned to me. I was eager to
learn new things, unafraid to ask questions about what I did not know, and
receptive to feedback from colleagues and my supervisor.

Second, I was able to effectively use translation support tools and apply
various office software applications to accomplish my assigned tasks to the best
of my ability. Additionally, my time management skills were quite good; I
consistently allocated my time wisely to ensure that I completed assignments on
time.

Finally, I am a sociable and dynamic person, which made it easy for me to

interact and learn from my colleagues, as well as to support each other with
fellow interns at the Hue Fine Arts Museum.

7.2. Weaknesses:

First, as a language student interning at an art museum, my lack of

specialized knowledge in art was a significant limitation, which posed many
challenges for me. I spent a considerable amount of time referencing specialized
materials to enhance my understanding.

Second, my English communication skills in a professional environment

were not yet strong. This may be due to my unfamiliarity with specialized
terminology or my lack of confidence when using English in complex
communication situations.

Finally, my presentation and interpretation skills were not particularly strong.

I struggled to present artworks in a vivid and engaging manner, as I lacked
experience speaking in front of an audience to explain or elaborate on various
topics.

8. Lessons Learned:

During my six-week internship at the Hue Museum of Fine Arts, although

the time was not long, it was sufficient for me to both enhance my professional
knowledge and develop practical skills. Through this experience, I have gathered
valuable insights that will serve as a solid foundation for my future.

8.1. Knowledge:

Working in a museum environment exposed me to numerous specialized

terms and vocabulary related to fine arts, art history, and conservation. Learning
and mastering these terms not only improved my communication effectiveness in
my work but also demonstrated my professionalism and understanding of my
field. My vocabulary has become increasingly rich and expansive.

Throughout the internship, engaging in actual translation and writing

explanatory texts helped me refine my writing skills and enhance my translation
abilities between Vietnamese and English. My ability to synthesize information,
analyze, and articulate ideas in English has significantly improved.

Beyond theoretical knowledge from books, I had the opportunity to directly

engage with various artworks, each carrying its own story and cultural
significance. By studying these pieces, I gained a deeper understanding of the
historical and social contexts in which they were created, enhancing my
knowledge and broadening my perspective. I recognized the importance of
preserving the artworks of painter Le Ba Dang and sculptor Diem Phung Thi, as
well as the significance of safeguarding our cultural heritage in general.

Thanks to the thorough guidance from my supervisor, I was able to learn

valuable lessons and gradually adopt a professional work ethic characterized by
meticulousness, clear organization, logical structuring of tasks, and timely
completion of assignments.

8.2. Skills:

Working alongside colleagues from various departments in the museum and

interacting with visitors from many different countries has significantly improved
my communication skills. I learned to proactively express my opinions and
viewpoints clearly and confidently, without hesitation or fear. I no longer shy
away from answering visitors' questions when they fall within my understanding.
I also developed the ability to listen actively and take quick notes on key
points raised by my supervisor during meetings. This helped me filter valuable
information to learn from and correct mistakes in my work at the museum.

Being in a professional environment required me to effectively work in

teams, share tasks, collaborate with colleagues and fellow interns, support each
other, and foster strong connections among team members.

Through this internship, I gained a clearer understanding of the

responsibilities of a museum guide. This role demands a wide range of
knowledge and essential skills. The field of fine arts is indeed new to me, and
there is so much to learn. If I wish to pursue this career after graduation, I
recognize the need to further my learning and development in all areas.
Additionally, I will strive to hone relevant skills necessary for the job, such as
communication, problem-solving, computer skills, critical thinking, and time
management, which will provide me with a solid foundation for my future career.
Moreover, I will maintain a focused and serious attitude toward my work, ready
to take on any tasks and complete them to the best of my ability.

9. Recommendations:

9.1. Hue Fine Arts Museum:

The Hue Fine Arts Museum provides an excellent internship environment for
students pursuing their dreams of becoming museum guides and interpreters.
Although my time here was short, the museum offered the best conditions for me
to complete this internship. They have worked hard to create a professional
environment that incorporates various elements, helping interns accelerate their
progress and achieve their goals. My supervisor and colleagues were very
friendly and supportive, assisting interns in all tasks. If the internship duration
could be extended, I would have the opportunity to participate in more activities
at the museum to gain even more knowledge and experience. Ultimately, I am
grateful and satisfied with my time at the Hue Museum of Fine Arts; it has truly
been a wonderful experience for me.
9.2. Training Program and Internship Organization:

To have a successful internship, I received enthusiastic support from the

English Department and all the teachers at the Hue University of Foreign
Languages. The university took responsibility for developing an action plan and
implementing activities to ensure that all students had the opportunity to intern.

The faculty equipped students with essential knowledge and skills, as well as
providing valuable advice on various related issues before the internship. In
practice, Hue University of Foreign Languages has achieved positive results in
organizing internship plans for its students.

III. CONCLUSION:

Through my first internship, I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and

valuable experiences. This opportunity allowed me not only to apply theoretical
concepts learned at university in a practical setting but also to glean numerous
lessons from a real-world work environment.

The internship served as a comprehensive evaluation, enabling me to identify

both my strengths and weaknesses up to this point. It provided a platform to
leverage my strengths while addressing areas that require improvement.
Consequently, I now possess a clearer understanding of the steps necessary to
enhance essential skills in preparation for my future career.

Despite the brevity of the internship, I successfully completed it with the

invaluable support of my supervisor and colleagues. Their commitment and
dedication to their work, coupled with their enthusiasm and friendliness, served
as a profound source of learning. I acquired significant knowledge and skills that
are universally applicable across various job roles.

While I acknowledge that certain weaknesses remain unaddressed, I am

nonetheless satisfied with my performance during this internship, as I exerted my
utmost effort to fulfill all assigned tasks. Additionally, this experience has
fostered stronger professional relationships and facilitated the formation of
lasting friendships, enriching both my career and personal life.
