NARRATIVE REPORT

LANGUAGE ENHANCEMENT THROUGH READING ASSESSMENT (LETRA)

READING BRIGADE

Lokeb Norte National High School was one of the participating schools for the Reading
Brigade conducted on February 26, 2024. The said activity was spearheaded by the School
Head- in- Charge in Secondary English, Madam Melanie B. Abulencia, together with Dr.
Rowena Dollente, District Department Head-in- Charge in English, Madam Marivic Benebe,
District Department Head-in- Charge in Filipino, and Mr. Jonathan Miranda, Teacher III from
Lokeb Sur National High School.
There were nine students who were asked to read in English. Whereas, these students were
all under Below Word Level; four Grade 7 students, four Grade 8 students, and 1 Grade 9
student.
As a result, three out of four students or 75% of the Grade 7 students improved and
promoted to the Word Level. While, all the Grade 8 students remained under the Below
Word Level. Three of them were even assessed as Below Letter Level for they cannot
recognize some letters. Meanwhile, the sole Grade 9 student improved as a Word Level,
which means 100% was promoted by one level.
The same assessment tool was used to assess the students’ reading level during the pretest
and the validation test.

SUGGESTED COURSE OF ACTION

FOR REMEDIATION

Individualized Instruction: Tailor instruction to meet the specific needs of

the individual. Provide targeted interventions and scaffolding as needed, and
adjust instruction based on ongoing progress monitoring.
Phonics Instruction: Provide explicit instruction in phonics to help individuals
learn the relationship between sounds and letters. Use multisensory
techniques to reinforce learning, such as using manipulatives, visual aids, and
auditory exercises.
Fluency Practice: Incorporate fluency-building activities into reading
instruction. This can include repeated readings, timed readings, and modeling
fluent reading. Encourage the individual to read aloud regularly to improve
expression and pacing.
Vocabulary Development: Focus on building vocabulary through direct
instruction of new words, context clues, and word analysis strategies.
Encourage reading widely across different genres to expose the individual to a
variety of vocabulary words.
Collaboration with Parents and Teachers: Maintain open communication
with parents and teachers to ensure consistency in support and interventions
across different environments.
Monitor Progress: Continuously monitor the individual's progress and adjust
instruction as needed. Celebrate successes and provide additional support as
necessary to address persistent challenges.
