Senior Males - 8 players
Senior Females – 7 players
Kids – 7 players
Males – 7 players
Females – 9 players
Rising stars – 8 players (one super-sub change per match allowed)
2. Each match will be 5 overs a team.
3. Only one bowler allowed to bowl 2 overs. Rest can bowl 1 over each.
o For Senior Males, this rule has been slighted changed to 2 bowlers allowed to bowl 2
overs each.
4. No LBW rules.
5. Overthrows are allowed across all leagues; No Leg‐byes and Byes allowed except if it is an
overthrow.
6. Direct shot hitting the top net:
o Out - for Males, Females & Rising Stars
o Not out - for Kids, Senior males & females.
• If the ball hits the net up & goes to the boundary – it is a boundary
• If the ball hits the net up & then a fielder catches it – Not out
• If the ball hits the net & then the batsman runs – Runs are allowed
7. No‐ball: One extra run, re‐bowl the ball and next ball is a “Free hit” – across all leagues.
o Violation of boundary rule such as not more than 3 players at the boundary (a
white line is marked specifically for that) at any given point of time.
ADVANTAGES OF FREE-HIT
o Batsman cannot get out caught, bowled, hitting the net or hit wicket.
o However, batsmen can get out through run out, stumped.
8. Wide: One extra run and re‐bowl the ball. If the bowl was a free‐hit, Free‐hit continues.
9. Declare 1 run: If the ball goes outside the arena due to any reason (this applies only if it is not out
as per rule #6)
10. For Senior teams (males & females) – Declare runs at different positions of the net will be awarded
and displayed at match time. We advise them against running but they are free to run if they wish
to. One run declare will have an effect of strike change, while two run declare will have an effect
of no strike change.
11. All players are allowed to use runner services (only for health concerns; not because I cannot run
fast)
12. Wicket keeper is compulsory for each team for all the overs.
13. POWER OVER:
o Any over can be a power over.
o Power over to be decided by bowling team captain and announced before start of over.
o Fielding restrictions:
- Males & Rising stars: Max two (2) on the boundary line
- Other leagues: Max three (3) on the boundary line
o Every run during the power over will counted ‘Double’ (including wides & no balls). So,
for one run, the batting team will be awarded ‘two’ runs.
o Similarly, if a wicket falls:
- Batting team loses runs from their scorecard apart from losing the wicket;
Deduction will be as follows:
o Five (5) runs – Males, Rising Stars league
o Three (3) runs – Females, Kids, Sr. Males & Sr. Females
14. Last man standing not allowed.
15. If a match ends in a tie, points will be shared in Group stages.
16. If the required runs have been chased in the middle of a Power over, match will be over.
17. Super Over will be played for Play‐offs and Finals.
18. Maximum 3 players can govern the boundary line for fielding throughout the innings.
19. Males Premier – Each player needs to play minimum 2 matches.
20. For the rest of the leagues - Each player needs to play minimum 1 match.
21. If the player has been bought on an auction table, his availability cannot change – if declared
unavailable at the time of auction & subsequently identified to be playing – the match will be
forfeited by his team.
22. If the team does not have minimum number of players present due to any reason, the team plays
with player(s) short.
APL 4 Draft
23. Timing of games are critical. Team may lose runs for slow over rate. Umpires will update on field.
Owners are mandated to ensure all players get fair chance to play & participate in the tournament.
24. If a player is injured temporarily or unavailable, then the right to provide substitution remains
with Governing council.
25. Batter cannot be called back citing “retired” or “declared” except for genuine injury reasons.
Similar rules apply for a bowler.
26. DECISION REVIEW SYSTEM
o One camera will be setup by APL GC.
o This will attempt to cover most of the field arena. No other video recording will be
considered for DRS.
o Each team will have only one (1) review per match (not per innings) irrespective of it being
a Final or League game. Use it wisely!
o If no DRS was taken, Umpire decision will be last decision - a team cannot challenge a
wrong decision just because the recording showed otherwise.
o DRS needs to be taken immediately by the captain – any indication of external (non-
playing) influence in decision making is strictly prohibited.
o All decisions will be taken by umpires and their call will be final.
o All teams need to always abide by this in the true spirit.
o The video recording is not full proof; please consider this as a limitation. If DRS is taken
and for any reason, Video recording is not available – Umpire decision stand.
o DRS review remains in the following situation:
▪ A successful DRS which overturns the umpire’s decision
▪ No video / angle not covered
▪ Umpire will decide if DRS will be retained / not retained.
27. If a player has not reported for the match, match will begin as per scheduled time. The team must
play without their absent players. No substitutions will be provided. For, genuine reason team
owner/captain should inform APL Governing council in advance. Final call remains with APL
Governing council only.
28. Any non-sportsman behaviour / misbehaviour with umpires or GC, the player can be issued a “Red
card” – impact will be out of the current match & next match. In case of team misbehaviour, the
team will be forced to forfeit the match.
29. Tournament rules are subject to modifications and changes by the APL Governing council. In case
any situation which has not been specified in this document, APL GC has the rights to take the
final call in consultation with umpires.
Don’t assume any rules, feel free to talk with any APL GC member to ensure clarity.
