Troubleshooting Electronic Transmission
Troubleshooting Electronic Transmission
This diagnostic code may be recorded for the following reasons: transmission oil
temperature may be too high. An open circuit has caused the ECM to incorrectly
determine that the temperature is too high. The machine may not shift smoothly
when the machine is cold. For medium tractors, the top brake pressure will be
reduced to a pressure that is near the pressure at brake touch up and the brakes
may drag lightly.
The signal circuit for the sensor is shorted to the +battery circuit.
Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore
these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the original
diagnostic code has been corrected. Ensure that the diagnostic code of CID 0177
FMI 03 is active before performing this procedure.
Note: Use the 146 - 4080 Digital multimeter for the measurements in this
procedure.
The diagnostic code of CID 0177 FMI 03 will be logged in the internal memory of
the ECM.
The machine may not shift smoothly when the machine is cold. For medium
tractors, the top brake pressure will be reduced to a pressure that is near the
pressure at brake touch up and the brakes may drag lightly.
NOT OK - The voltage is not 8 DCV. The + battery circuit in the machine
harness has failed.
Repair: Replace the machine harness or repair the machine harness.

the cause of the diagnostic code is not found, replace the power train ECM.
See the testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".
NO - The CID 0177 FMI 03 is not active. The diagnostic code does not exist at
this time.
Repair: The initial diagnostic code was probably caused by a poor electrical
connection at one of the harness connectors that was disconnected and
reconnected. Resume normal machine operation.

This diagnostic code is for the sensor supply of the transmission oil temperature
sensor or the steering oil temperature sensor. Both sensors are never present on
the same machine. Refer to the Electrical System Schematic for the machine that
is being serviced in order to determine the sensor that is on the machine.
