TUTORIAL 1: TRANSMISSION LINES (DO NOT USE THE SMITH CHART)
1 Show that the T-model of the transmission line yields the same telegrapher equation as previously derived. The T-model
2 A Transmission line operating at 125 MHz has Z0 = 40 , = 0.02
Np/m, and = 0.75 rad/m. Find the line parameters R, L, G and C.
3 Using the slotted line, the voltage on a lossless transmission line
was found to have a maximum magnitude of 1.5 V and a minimum magnitude of 0.6 V. What is the magnitude of the loads reflection coefficient?
4 A lossless 50- transmission line is terminated in a load with ZL =
30 – j60 . The wavelength is 5 cm. Find the following: (a) The reflection Coefficient at the load. (b) The standing-wave ratio on the line. (c) The position of the voltage maximum nearest the load. (d) The position of the current maximum nearest the load.
5 A 50 lossless transmission line terminated in a purely resistive
load has an SWR = 4. Find all possible values of ZL. 6 Consider the transmission line circuit shown below. Compute the incident power, the reflected power, and the power transmitted into the infinite-length 75 line. Show that power conservation is satisfied. 7 A 600-m-long lossless transmission line has an inductance and capacitance of 0.4 H/m and 85 pF/m, respectively. Determine (a) the velocity of propagation and the phase constant for an operating frequency of 100 kHz, and (b) the characteristic impedance of the transmission line,
8 A lossless coaxial cable is used to delay a pulse by 100 ns. The
inductance and the capacitance per meter length of the cable are 0.20 H/m and 60 pF/m, respectively. Determine the length of the cable.
9 A resistive load connected to a 75- cable causes a VSWR of 1.3 with no
phase shift on the reflected wave. Determine the shunt resistance to be connected across the load in order not to have standing waves along the cable.
10 A 300 m long transmission line has a characteristic impedance of 75
and a phase velocity of 220,000 km/s at the operating frequency 3 MHz. The line is terminated in an impedance of 150+j400 . If the voltage across the receiving end is 500o V(rms) determine the current through the load and the input voltage to the transmission line.
