I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of…
the particle nature of matter as basis for explaining
properties, physical changes, and structure of
substances and mixtures.
B. Performance Standards The learner should be able to…

1. Present how water behaves in its different

state within the water cycle
C. Learning Competencies MELC: Explain the properties of solids, liquids,
and gases based on the particle nature of matter;
WEEK 1- WEEK 2

Objectives At the end of the lesson, the students should be able

to:
1. describe the three states of matter;
2. identify the different characteristics of states
of matter through an activity; and
3. recognize the importance of understanding
of state of matter in our everyday lives.

3. Checking of attendance

Class Secretary, is there any absentee “I’m glad to tell you that
today?” everyone is present today.”

“Good to hear that everyone is present

today!”

"Grade 8, new learning ahead!"

"Let's get started, everyone!"

RECALL ( 3 minute)

“Yesterday we discussed about properties “Physical properties can be

of matter, based for our discussion, measured and observed by
differentiate physical and chemical our senses, while the
properties of matter. chemical properties can only
be observed and measured
once there is a chemical
change happened.”

“Alright, since you already understood our

lesson about properties of matter, we can
proceed to our next lesson.”

MOTIVATION
4PICS 1 WORD
(3 MINUTES)

Let’s have a quick game called 4 PICS 1

WORD.

“solid”

“Liquid”
“Gas”

(Students answer may vary)

Guide Questions:
1. Based from the words, what do
you think our lesson all about?
2. In your grade 7 you already
encounter these words; how will
you define those?
B. DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION PROPER
(10 MINUTES)

States of Matter

1. Solid

 Shape: Definite (maintains its

shape).
 Volume: Definite (fixed volume).
 Particle Arrangement: Particles
are tightly packed in a fixed
arrangement.
 Particle Movement: Vibrates in
place but does not move freely.
 Examples: Ice, metal, wood.

2. Liquid
 Shape: Indefinite (takes the shape
of its container).
 Volume: Definite (fixed volume).
 Particle Arrangement: Particles
are close but not in a fixed
position.
 Particle Movement: Particles can
flow and slide past each other.
 Examples: Water, oil, milk.

3.Gas
 Shape: Indefinite (takes the shape
of its container).
 Volume: Indefinite (expands to fill
the container).
 Particle Arrangement: Particles
are far apart and randomly
arranged.
 Particle Movement: Moves freely
and quickly in all directions.
 Examples: Air, oxygen, steam.

C. ENGAGEMENT GROUP ACTIVTY

IT’S SHOWTIME
(15 MINUTES)

The class will be divided into 4 groups

and each group will be given a task and 3
minutes to present.

Instruction. Each group will explain the

states of matter and give examples
through the ROLE PLAYING.

Criteria:

D. ASSIMILATION GUIDE QUESTION: (2 minutes)

1. Why is it important for

students to learn about the
three states of matter?
2. What do you think will
happen to you if you don’t
know the states of matter?

“Very good insight!”

“Give her three claps.” (Class will follow the

teacher’s instruction)

E. ASSESSMENT (Group activity is also the assessment)

F. EXTEND ASSIGNMENT (3minutes)

1. Use the Venn diagram to compare

and contrast the properties of
solids, liquids, and gases. Fill in
the diagram with the correct
characteristics of each state of
matter. In A4 size bond paper.

REMARKS
REFLECTION

earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who
require additional
activities for
remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons
work? No. of learners
who have caught up in
the lesson
D. No. of learners who
continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching
strategies worked well?
Why did these work?

encounter which my
principal or supervisor
can help me solve?
G. What innovation or
localized materials did I
used/discover which I
