Please read the following instructions carefully before attempting any of the
questions:
1. Attempt all questions. Marks are written adjacent to each question.
2. Do not ask any questions about the contents of this examination from anyone.
a. If you think that there is something wrong with any of the questions, attempt it
to the best of your understanding.
b. If you believe that some essential piece of information is missing, make an
appropriate assumption and use it to solve the problem.
c. Write all steps, missing steps may lead to deduction of marks.

Question No: 6 Marks:05
Define f: R R by the rule f(x) =30x-10 for all x R.
If f is bijective? Prove or give counter example.
Solution:
1st we show that f is 1 to 1.
We only prove that for x1, x2 R
f(x1)=f(x2) then x1=x2
Let f(x1)= f(x2)
30x1-10 = 30x2-10
30x1 = 30x2
So x1 = x2
Solution:
Let Tk = (2+(k-1)2)(3+(k-1)2)
Tk =2k(2k+1)
Tk =4k2+2k
Now Sk = T1 + T2 + T3 + --- +Tn
=
Solution:
For R1:
1- R1 is reflexive
2- R1 is not symmetric as (b, a), (c, b) and (c, a) are not in R1.
3- R1 is transitive.
For R2:
1- R2 is not reflexive as (b, b) and (c, c) is not in R2.
2- R2 is symmetric.
3- R2 is not transitive.
Note: In order to get full marks do all necessary steps.
Is valid or not.
