INTRODUCTION:
The Taizé Community is an ecumenical Christian monastic fraternity in Taizé,
Saône-et-
Loire, Burgundy, France. It is composed of more than one hundred brothers,
from Catholic and Protestant traditions, who originate from about thirty countries
across the
world. It was founded in 1940 by Brother Roger Schütz, a Reformed Protestant.
Guidelines for
the community’s life are contained in The Rule of Taizé written by Brother Roger
and first
published in French in 1954.[1]
Taizé has become one of the world's most important sites of Christian pilgrimage,
with a focus on
youth. Over 100,000 young people from around the world make pilgrimages to
Taizé each year
for prayer, Bible study, sharing, and communal work. Through the community's
ecumenical
outlook, they are encouraged to live in the spirit of kindness, simplicity and
reconciliation. The
community's church, the Church of Reconciliation, was inaugurated on 6 August
1962. It was
designed by a Taizé member and architect, Brother Denis.

OPENING PRAYER:
Loving God, You sent your son Jesus into this world to be an example to us all. From a young
age He followed Your will. He preached, healed and led people to You. He suffered, He died and
He rose.
We pray for us, the youth. Give us knowledge, courage and a willing heart to be the disciples of
today. To learn God's will, to share God's message and to be God's people. To know, to love and
to serve. Bless us with happiness, friendship, love, laughter, peace, hope, faith, achievement
and direction.
We pray that we may find ourselves, find God and find our place in the life and mission of
our community. Amen.

1st SONG(BLESS THE LORD)

FIRST READING Sirach 48: 1-4, 9-11

A reading from the book of Sirach
1 And Elias the prophet stood up, as a fire, and his word burnt like a torch.
2 He brought a famine upon them, and they that provoked him in their envy, were reduced to a small
number, for they could not endure the commandments of the Lord.
3 By the word of the Lord he shut up the heaven, and he brought down fire from heaven thrice.
4 Thus was Elias magnified in his wondrous works. And who can glory like to thee?
9 Who wast taken up in a whirlwind of fire, in a chariot of fiery horses.
10 Who art registered in the judgments of times to appease the wrath of the Lord, to reconcile the heart
of the father to the son, and to restore the tribes of Jacob.
11 Blessed are they that saw thee, and were honoured with thy friendship.

Responsorial Psalm:
R. (4) Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.
2ac Give ear, O thou that rulest Israel: Thou that sittest upon the cherubims, shine forth
3b Stir up thy might.
R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.
15 Turn again, O God of hosts, look down from heaven, and see, and visit this vineyard:
16 And perfect the same which thy right hand hath planted: and upon the son of man whom thou hast
confirmed for thyself.
R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.
18 Let thy hand be upon the man of thy right hand: and upon the son of man whom thou hast confirmed
for thyself.
19 And we depart not from thee, thou shalt quicken us: and we will call upon thy name.
R. Lord, make us turn to you; let us see your face and we shall be saved.

2nd SONG-(JESUS IS YOUR LIGHT)(ALLELUIA)

Gospel: Matthew 17: 9a, 10-13

9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying: Tell the vision to no man, till
the Son of man be risen from the dead.
10 And his disciples asked him, saying: Why then do the scribes say that Elias must come first?
11 But he answering, said to them: Elias indeed shall come, and restore all things.
12 But I say to you, that Elias is already come, and they knew him not, but have done unto him
whatsoever they had a mind. So also the Son of man shall suffer from them.
13 Then the disciples understood, that he had spoken to them of John the Baptist.

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, On
earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive
those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

CLOSING PRAYER
O God the Father of all, you ask every one of us to spread love and reconciliation where people
are divided. You open this way for us, so that the wounded body of Jesus Christ, your church,
may be leaven of communion for the poor of the earth and in the whole human family.
Jesus, light of our hearts, we would like to remain close to you, never abandoning you by our
wayside. And when we come to know our weaknesses, unexpected resources appear within us.
How could we refuse an inner vitality that comes from you?
Lord, your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. Thank you that we can live in
Your light and walk in Your truth. May the things that you have revealed and thoughts that we
have shared dwell in our hearts and stir us to action.
We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus. Amen.

PRAYER TO OUR BLESSED MOTHER

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves
to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm. You,
Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that,
as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us,
Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,
who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the
cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.
We fly to your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our petitions in our
necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O Glorious and Blessed Virgin. Amen.
