UNGROUPED DATA

QUARTILES UNGROUPED DATA

Formulas: Q1= ¼(n+1) Q2= ½(n+1) Q3= ¾(n+1)
Arrange the scores in ascending order:
13 13 14 14 15 15 15 16 16 16 16 18 19 20 20 20 21 21 21 22 22 22 22 22 23 23 24 24 24 25 26

40 41 41 43 45 45 46
n= 100

Find Q1, Q2, and Q3

Solving Q1
Position of Q1= ¼(n+1)
Position of Q1=¼(100+1)
Position of Q1= ¼(101)
Position of Q1= 101/4
Position of Q1= 25.25
The computed value 25.25 becomes 26 after rounding up. The lower quartile value (Q1) is the
26th data element, so Q1= 23.
Since the result is a decimal number, interpolation is needed.
Interpolation:
25th data = 23 , 26th data = 23
Step 1: Subtract the 25th data from the 26th data.
23-23= 0
Step 2: Multiply the result by the decimal part obtained in the second step (Position of Q 1).
0(0.25)= 0
Step 3: Add the result in step 2, to the 2nd or smaller number.
23+0= 23
Therefore, the value of Q1 is 23 so 25% of the Grade 10 students have a score of less than or
equal to 23.

Solving Q2
Position of Q2= ½(n+1)
Position of Q2= ½(100+1)
Position of Q2= ½(101)
Position of Q2= 101/2
Position of Q2= 50.5≈ 51
So you need to get the average of the 50th element and 51st element the second quartile (Q2) :
Q2= 50th element + 51st element divided by 2.
Q2= 30 + 30 / 2
Q2= 60 / 2
Q2= 30
Since the result is a decimal number, interpolation is needed.
Interpolation:
50th data = 30 , 51st data = 30
Step 1: Subtract the 50th data from the 51st data.
30-30= 0
Step 2: Multiply the result by the decimal part obtained in the second step (Position of Q 2).
0(0.5)= 0
Step 3: Add the result in step 2, to the 2nd or smaller number.
30+0= 30
Therefore, the value of Q2 is 30 so 50% of the Grade 10 students have a score of less than or
equal to 30.

Solving Q3
Position of Q3= ¾(n+1)
Position of Q3= ¾(100+1)
Position of Q3= ¾(101)
Position of Q3= 303/4
Position of Q3= 75.75
The computed value 75.75 becomes 75 after rounding down. The upper quartile value (Q 3) is the
75th data element, so Q3= 36.
Interpolation:
75th data = 36 , 76th data = 36
Step 1: Subtract the 75th data from the 76th data.
36-36= 0
Step 2: Multiply the result by the decimal part obtained in the second step (Position of Q 3).
0(0.75)= 0
Step 3: Add the result in step 2, to the 2nd or smaller number.
36+0= 36
Therefore, the value of Q3 is 36 so 75% of the Grade 10 students have a score of less than or
equal to 36.

n= 100

Find the D2 , D5 , and D8.

Solving D2
Dk= k/10(n+1)
Position of D2= 2/10(100+1)
Position of D2= 1/5(101)
Position of D2= 101/5
Position of D2= 20.2
Position of D2= 20
D2 is the 20th element. Therefore, D1 is 22.
Interpolation:
22-22= 0
0(0.2)= 0
22+0= 22
D2= 22
Therefore, D2 is 22 so 20% of the Grade 10 students have a score of less than or equal to 22.

Solving D5
Dk= k/10(n+1)
Position of D5= 5/10(100+1)
Position of D5= 5/10(101)
Position of D5= 505/10
Position of D5= 50.5
Position of D5= 51
D5 is the 51st element. Therefore, D5 is 30.
Interpolation:
30-30= 0
0(0.5)= 0
30+0= 30
Therefore, D5 is 30 so 50% of the Grade 10 students have a score of less than or equal to 30.

Solving D8
Dk= k/10(n+1)
Position of D8= 8/10(100+1)
Position of D8= 8/10(101)
Position of D8= 808/10
Position of D8= 80.8
Position of D8= 81
D8 is the 81st element. Therefore, D8 is 36.
Interpolation:
36-36=0
0(0.8)= 0
36+0= 36
Therefore, D8 is 36 so 80% of the Grade 10 students have a score of less than or equal to 36.

V. Discussion
This study examines the importance of the results pertaining to the mathematical
performance of Negros Oriental High School students in Grade 10 during the third quarter
examinations of the 2023–2024 academic year. It will place the findings in the larger context of
educational research and emphasize the significance of mathematical competency for students'
academic paths and future pursuits. The study's implications for curriculum design, instructional
practices, and educational policy aimed at enhancing mathematics education at the high school
level will also be covered in the discussion. Through an explanation of the advantages and
disadvantages found in the test data analysis, the conversation will further the current debate
about educational reform and the improvement of mathematical learning results for students.

VI. Conclusion

Math exams assess understanding, encourage problem-solving and critical thinking, and allow
students to demonstrate proficiency, aiding academic and career advancement.

Based on the results, the average score of Grade 10 students in the third quarter exams in
mathematics is 29.40.
The results also showed that 75% of the 100 Grade 10 students or 75 Grade 10 students got a
score less than or equal to 35.19 or 36 and 25% of the Grade 10 students or 25 Grade 10 students
got a score greater than or equal to 35.19 or 36.Which means out of 100 respondents only 28
passed.

Students who haven't passed should study by breaking down concepts, practicing regularly,
seeking help, reviewing past exams, and staying organized. Those who passed should maintain
or enhance their study techniques.
