Content
 Computers Hardware-Peripherals
 Input devices – Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Light pen, etc
 Output devices: Monitor (VDU), Printer, Speaker, etc.
 System unit: Central processing unit, Memory unit
 A computer system consists of three main parts otherwise called
components.
 They are :
 Hardware
 Software
 People ware
In this lesson, we shall be looking only at the hardware aspect
 These are the physical parts of the computer that we see, feel and
handle.

 Hardware can be divided into two sections:


 The System Unit
 The peripherals
 The system unit is the casing that houses all the internal
and delicate components of the computer system such as;
 The motherboard
 The Central Processing Unit
 Control Unit
 Arithmetic and Logic Unit
 Memory Unit
 Random Access Memory (RAM)
 Read Only Memory (ROM)
 The hard disk
 The Power supply unit
 Cd/DVD disk drive
 The peripherals are devices outside the system unit but function
under the control of the CPU. They are external devices that are
attached to the system unit.
 Peripherals are in three categories:
 Input Devices - Keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, Light pen, etc.
 Output Devices – Monitor/VDU, Printer, Speaker, etc.
 Storage Devices - Flash drives, CDs, DVDs, external hard drives,
memory card, etc.
