Introduction

• An automated teller machine (ATM) is an electronic banking outlet that allows

customers to complete basic transactions without the aid of a branch representative
or teller.
• Anyone with a credit card or debit card can access cash at most ATMs. ATMs are
convenient, allowing consumers to perform quick self-service transactions such as
deposits, cash withdrawals, bill payments, and transfers between accounts.
• Fees are commonly charged for cash withdrawals by the bank where the account is
located, by the operator of the ATM, or by both.
• Some or all of these fees can be avoided by using an ATM operated directly by the
bank that holds the account.

Problem Statement

1. Security Risks :
- Increased risk of unauthorized access if card or PIN is compromised.
- Card retention after multiple incorrect PIN entries could inconvenience legitimate
users .
2. Transaction Limits and Fees :
- Users often face fees or limits when using ATMs from other banks.
- Lack of transparency on transaction fees may lead to unexpected charges.
3. User Experience Issues :
- ATM navigation can be complex for users unfamiliar with digital transactions.
- Language barriers and unclear instructions can hinder accessibility.
- Limited functionality at some ATMs (e.g., not all accept deposits or transfers).
4 . Data Privacy and Security :
- Risks associated with data storage and transfer between ATMs and banks.
- Potential exposure of sensitive user information in case of breaches.
- Users lack control over personal data shared with third-party ATMs.

7
Objectives

1. Enable Multi-Account Access: Develop a smart card that securely links multiple bank
accounts, allowing users to access multiple accounts from one card.

2. Enhance Security Measures: Integrate advanced security features (e.g., biometric

authentication, two-factor authentication, encryption) to protect user information and
prevent unauthorized access

3. Improve User Convenience: Simplify access to multiple accounts at any ATM,

eliminating the need to carry multiple cards for different banks.

4. Reduce Transaction Fees: Reduce or waive transaction fees by consolidating services

into a single smart card that can interact with multiple banks' ATMs efficiently

5. Promote Financial Literacy: Integrate features that help users manage finances
effectively, such as displaying account balances and providing transaction summaries across
linked accounts.
8
Proposed Methodology

• RFID-based card: The card has a unique number and replaces the magnetic strip-based
ATM card.
• Arduino MEGA microcontroller: Processes data from the sensor.
• Fingerprint module: Authenticates the user.
• Formula-based authentication: Generates an OTP using alphabets and operators.
• Biometric authentication: Uses the user's fingerprint for each transaction.

1. Insert the smart card into the ATM.

2. The ATM requests authentication from the server .
3. After authentication, the ATM displays a list of the user's banks .
4. The user selects the bank for the transaction .
5. The request is sent to the corresponding bank through a network
6. The bank's server is linked to access the user's database .
7. The transaction is processed .

Advantages

Enhanced Convenience:
Users can access multiple bank accounts with a single card, eliminating the need to carry
multiple cards for different accounts.

Improved Security:
Advanced security features like biometrics, PIN protection, and encryption make it harder
for unauthorized users to access accounts.

Cost Savings:
Minimizes or eliminates transaction fees by streamlining multiple accounts onto one card,
especially when using ATMs of different banks

Enhanced User Experience:

Personalized options, such as custom withdrawal limits and account preferences, offer a
more user-friendly experience.

12
Applications

Multi-Account Management:
Allows users to link and access multiple bank accounts with a single card, simplifying
account management for those with accounts across different banks.

Enhanced Security in Financial Transactions:

Provides a more secure alternative to traditional ATM cards, leveraging biometrics, PIN, and
encryption to protect against unauthorized access and fraud.

Streamlined ATM and POS Transactions:

Enables seamless access to multiple accounts at ATMs and Point of Sale (POS) terminals,
making it easier for users to choose which account to use during a transaction.

Enhanced Customer Experience in Banking:

Provides a more convenient banking experience by consolidating multiple services into one
card, improving customer satisfaction.

13
Expected Outcome

Streamlined Multi-Account Access:

Users can access multiple bank accounts through a single smart ATM card, reducing the
need for multiple cards and simplifying wallet management

Enhanced Security and Fraud Prevention:

Increased protection against unauthorized access through multi-layered security features
(e.g., biometrics, two-factor authentication, encryption).

Cost Savings for Users:

Reduced transaction fees when using ATMs of various banks, as the smart card
consolidates multiple accounts into one access point.

Increased Compatibility and Interoperability:

Smart card works seamlessly across different ATMs, enhancing usability across different
banking systems and networks, both domestically and internationally.
