Chapter 10 System Status and Alarm Lists

10.1 General Information

10.1.1 Description
This chapter describes System status information.

10.1.2 Objectives
On completion of this chapter you will be able to:
 Understand how to analyze the hardware status and service status using the
System Status viewer.
 Understand how to filter Alarm and Event Lists for fault finding.
 Understand how to use System message list and Operator message list for fault
finding.
 Usage of RNRP aspects and RNRP monitors.

10.2 Overview

10.2.1 Definition
The hierarchy in the service structure are as follow.
 Service
Implements different functions of aspect systems. If this service provider fails,
the COM server should be able to switch over to use another service provider
in the service group. This is how fault tolerance and system wide accessibility
is achieved.

 Service Group
Each service is organized as a set of service groups, and each service group
contains service providers.

Chapter 10 System Status and Alarm Lists

 Service Provider
The Service Provider object represents the process performing a service.
A service provider is running on one, and only one, physical node.

The tools for giving a status overview of the system are as follow:
 System Status Viewer
Dependant where it is used it gives you an overview of hardware or services.
 System Alarm list and System Event List
Internal system events, Useful for trouble shooting system vise trouble
shooting
 Operator message list
Messages for the operator, actually the information here gives you hint about
problem with graphics etc. etc.
 RNRP monitor
Information about node and network status of the system.

10.3 System Status viewer

Depending from which object you call the System Status viewer different information
is shown. If you call it up from the Control Structure you will get information about
the hardware as shown below.

10.4 Alarm list

What type of alarms you see in the alarm list is defined by the categories. The
categories are defined by the corresponding OPC server. The AC800 M/C OPC server
has the following categories:
 Process Simple Event , Generated by simple event detector in controller
 Process Condition Event, Generated by Condition Event in controller
 System Simple Event, Simple event generated by system
 System Condition Event, Condition Event generated by system
 OPC_SERVER_ERROR,
 Process Data To Simple Event, Generated by an application with extra user
data

The Alarm list configuration shows the categories in the alarm list. If all categories are
not selected means that all categories will be shown in the alarm list. The alarm list
can also be filtered on times.

The alarm list shows also system alarms. This means you will see alarms when a
service goes down or a node doesn’t respond any more.

10.5 System Event list and Operator Message List

What type of events you see in the event list is defined by the categories. The
categories available you will find defined by the system messages services in the
storage class definition..
As you see here you have also the categories for process alarms

The information in the detailed window gives you a hint in which object you the
problem. You can now use the find tool to locate the object. You can either type in the
name of the object or use the GUID (Global Unique Identifier).

10.6 RNRP monitor

The RNRP monitor shows also the nodes and the states in the network. The RNRP
monitor shows also events concerning the network.
