This chapter describes how you collect log files for further analyzes.

Chapter 15 Collecting Log files
A window is opened with controller log file information, by saving this file to a location at
your own choice, you can then use it for later analyzes. In the log file you find valuable
information about hardware status of communication interfaces and I/O. Each time you call
Show Controller Log the latest log file will be get the extension log_bak, the second but last
log file will get the extension log_bak2 and the oldest log file will be deleted.
Caution don’t open show controller log file unless you have copied important old log file to
another save place. The log files are placed normally in the following directory.

The location and the name of the log file are by a default installation as follow:
C:\ABB Industrial IT Data\Control IT Data\OPC Server for AC 800MC 3.4\LogFiles\
Session.log
The content of the log file is:

After a restart of the OPC server the log file Session.log will be renamed to Session.Log_bak.
And the Session.log file will be newly created.

The event logs should also be configured that the oldest events are overwritten if needed and
the size must normally be increased. You call up the setting by selecting properties in the
context menu of the event log.

The Remote Diagnostic tool is then started and you can then select the log files you want to
extract.

After you have selected the node you continue then with selecting the different log files.
Press Gather data after you have selected the logs want to collect. Then you press the view
data from cab file in order to see the result. The result appears in explorer window with links
to the different individual log files.

The storage where you have the cab file is specified by calling up ABBResults Directory
Configuration as shown in Figure 15. 12 Start Remote diagnostic. The cab file could also be
sent to ABB support centers for further analyses.
