If we like to determine the viscosity of a liquid with respect to water then we have:
Procedure:
1. The Ostwaldviscometer was cleaned and filled up with distilled water (bigger bulb up to
half or litle more) and then suck through a rubber tube, fited with the viscometer, til
upper mark of smaller bulb.
2. Water was then allowed to come down tothe lower mark of the viscometer and time was
noted forflow of a fixed volume of liquid.
3. Step 2was repeated repeated for 4 times.
4. Then the viscometer was rinsed with provided sample liquid and time of flow of given
sample liquid was noted without changing the setup. The process was repeated for 4
times.
5. To determine the relative density of the liquid, weight of an empty Pyknometer was
taken. Then weight of the pyknometer filled with i) distilled water and filled with ii)
supplied sample liquid were taken separately.
