A Strategic Report For MoonLight Energy Solutions
A Strategic Report For MoonLight Energy Solutions
Energy Solutions
Introduction
In the quest for sustainable energy, MoonLight Energy Solutions is exploring cutting-edge analytics
to identify high-potential regions for solar installations. As an Analytics Engineer, I took on the
challenge of analyzing environmental measurement data to derive actionable insights that align with
the company’s long-term sustainability goals. Here’s how I turned data into a strategy for clean
energy.
• Solar Irradiance: Global Horizontal Irradiance (GHI), Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI), and
Diffuse Horizontal Irradiance (DHI).
• Weather Indicators: Ambient Temperature (Tamb), Wind Speed (WS), Relative Humidity
(RH), and Barometric Pressure (BP).
• Sensor Data: Module temperatures (TModA, TModB) and cleaning statuses affecting sensor
readings.
By filtering out invalid data (e.g., negative values), I ensured only high-quality observations were
included in the analysis.
Key Findings
1. Solar Irradiance Trends
• I observed that GHI, DNI, and DHI displayed seasonal and daily variations, peaking
during summer months. High DNI values indicated clear skies, which are essential for
solar panel efficiency.
2. Impact of Cleaning on Sensor Performance
• My analysis revealed that module readings (ModA and ModB) became more consistent
after cleaning events. This highlighted the importance of regular maintenance for optimal
solar panel performance.
3. Weather and Solar Efficiency
• Relative Humidity (RH) inversely correlated with solar radiation, underscoring the need to
prioritize regions with low humidity for installations.
• Ambient temperature (Tamb) slightly affected efficiency but showed manageable impacts
under operational thresholds.
4. Wind and Barometric Patterns
• Wind speed (WS) distributions revealed favorable conditions in specific areas, which could
aid cooling for solar installations.
Strategic Recommendations
1. Focus on Regions with High DNI: Prioritize areas with consistent clear skies and high DNI
values for solar installations. These regions promise maximum solar energy yield.
2. Invest in Cleaning Technologies: Cleaning emerged as a significant factor in maintaining
sensor accuracy and performance. Deploy automated cleaning systems to ensure
uninterrupted operation.
3. Leverage Weather Analytics: Use advanced weather forecasting to schedule maintenance
and optimize energy outputs during peak solar conditions.
4. Target Humidity and Temperature Sweet Spots: Select regions with low RH and moderate
Tamb values for installation to mitigate environmental inefficiencies.
Conclusion
Analyzing environmental data allowed me to derive actionable insights for MoonLight Energy
Solutions. This journey from data to strategy not only reinforces the company’s commitment to clean
energy but also sets a precedent for innovation in the renewable sector.
