English Gamatical Compilation Lesson
Noun
Definition: refers to people, places or things; It can’t include the pronouns.
Examples:
● A cat it’s a good company to humans;
● I like to play soccer with my team.
● Eat an apple could make us healthier.
2. Verb
Definition: it's used to talk about action, state or occurrence like to eat, to drink, to
sing, to dance, etc.
Examples:
● I walked to my house yesterday, before school.
● I was thinking about my way to live.
● I want to ride a bike today.
3. Adjective
Definition: is a describing word, that means that is used to tell something about the
noun.
Examples:
● The girl is beautiful and tall.
● My mom it’s the most intelligent woman that I know.
● My guinea pig is funny and small.
4. Adverb
Definition: They modify, verbs, adjectives, other adverbs phrases or even entire
sentences.
Examples:
● The rain is coming soon.
● The cat is happily running.
● The people are just calling him back.
5. Pronoun
Definition: it’s used to name people or objects without repeating their name.
Examples:
● Nick is good company to her wife. He’s a good father too.
● Maria is a lawyer. She’s an intelligent woman.
● Carol is a good actress. Her last novel was great.
6. Preposition
Definition: it’s a small word that shows direction, time, location, or introduces an
object. They’re usually followed by an object, which can be a noun, a noun phrase or a
pronoun.
Examples:
● The door by you is closed.
● The laptop is on the table.
● The car is an automobile that could be moved by electricity or combustion.
7. Conjunction
Definition: are words which join together other words to make the phrase better to
understand.
Examples:
● You like corn, but I don’t like it.
● I like pizza, hamburger and fries.
● Do you like green or red?
8. Interjection
Definition: it’s a word that is independent from words around and maily express
feeling.
Example:
● Oh, what a beautiful child.
● Wow, it was awesome.
● Well, it's time to get out.
9. Article
Definition: shows when a noun is specific or general.
Examples:
● I want the smartphone. I want a smartphone.
● I need the dress. I need a dress.
● I like to walk in the park. I like to walk in the park.
Note: we use “a” before words that start with a consonant sound and “an” before a
word that starts with a vowel sound.
10. Phrase
Definition: it’s a group of words together in a sentence, but does not contain a verb or
a subject.
Examples:
● Filled with joy, the girl jumped up and down.
● Filled with anger, the boy screamed aloud.
● The boy was singing with a smile on his face.
11. Clause
Definition: a group of words consisting of a subject and a finite form of a verb.
Examples:
● She loves to read books.
● They went to de park.
● In case you are hungry.
