1. Objective:.
▪ The objective of this experiment is to check the
validity of the Superposition Theorem in linear
electrical circuits, using the independent source
effect on voltage or current in each circuit
element.
2. Equipment Used:.
• Two DC voltage sources.
• Different resistors, such as 1kΩ, 22kΩ, and so on.
• Connecting wires.
• Breadboard.
• Multimeter.
• DC Power Supply.
2
3. Theory:.
▪ A linear circuit would have more than one
voltage or current source. The superposition
theorem states that the current or voltage in any
branch of such a circuit is equivalent to the
algebraic sum of the site voltages or currents.
These site voltages or currents arise from each
independent source, acting alone, while all other
independent sources are turned off.
- A short circuit takes place of a voltage
source.
- Current proportional to voltage is replaced by
a short circuit.
4. Experimental Procedure.
• The circuit should consist of two voltage sources
and three resistors.
3
• Make the first voltage source active. The second
voltage source is a short circuit.
• Measure and record voltages and currents in the
components of the circuit.
• Switch off the first source and switch on the
second one only.
• Measure and note the values again.
• Turn on both sources at the same time and
measure voltages and currents.
• Compare measured values to the theoretical
results determined from superposition.
5. Results.
Example results (to be filled in after
measurements).
4
6. Discussion.
5
▪ The experiment proved the Superposition
Theorem since the same results were obtained
as the actual measurements when both
sources were active by summing the individual
effects of each source. Small deviations could
be due to.
o Measurement inaccuracies.
o Resistance of Wire and Breadboard
Contacts
o Tolerance in resistor values.
7. Conclusion.
▪ According to the results, the Superposition
Theorem can be applied to linear circuits with
several sources. It can be used to analyze the
impact of each source separately.
