4. a) Derive an expression for the saving of copper effected by using an 10 M CO 2 L5
autotransformer instead of a two winding transformer.
Two 250 kVA transformer supplying a network are connected in parallel on
10 M CO 2 L3
b) both primary and secondary sides. Their voltage ratios are the same. The
resistance drops are 1.5 % and 0.9 % and the reactance drops are 3.33 % and 4
% respectively. Calculate the kVA loading on each transformer and its power
factor when the total load on the transformer is 500 kVA and at 0.707 lagging
p.f.
5. a) i) Explain torque – slip characteristics of 3 phase Induction motor indicating
10M CO 3 L2
all three region of operation.
b) Draw circle diagram from No load & Blocked rotor test of 3phase ,14.92 KW,
400V, 6 pole Induction motor from the following test results;
No load: 400V, 11A, 0.2 Pf Blocked rotor: 100V, 25A, 0.4 Pf. Rotor copper 10 M CO 3 L1
loss at stand still is half the total copper loss from the diagram. Find line
current, slip and efficiency

6. a) Explain the phenomenon of cogging and crawling in a three phase induction 10 M CO 3 L1
motor.
b) Draw the circle diagram from no-load and short circuit test of a 3 phase 14.92
kW, 400 V, 6 pole induction motor with the following test data.
No load : 400V, 11A, p.f = 0.2
10 M CO 3 L5
S.C test: 100V, 25A, p.f = 0.4
Rotor copper loss at standstill is half the total copper loss. From the diagram,
find i) line current, ii) Slip, iii) Pf at full load iv) Efficiency and v) Maximum
Torque.
7. a) Why starter is necessary to start an induction motor? Mention the different
10 M CO 4 L2
types of starter. Also explain in detail, any two starter of induction motor.
