25. With neat sketches give lap joint and butt joint.
26. What is tacking rivet.
27. What are the assumption in riveted joint.
28. What percent the strength of rivet is reduced in case of field rivet.
29. Calculate the shear strength of one rivet of 20mm nominal diameter in following
configurations a. In single shear (n=1)
b. In double shear (n=2)

The allowable shear stress in rivets vf=100N/mm2

30. Calculate the rivet value of a 30mm diameter Power driven Shop rivet in a lap joint
connecting 20 mm and 24 mm thick plates.
31. Give the name of different types of bolts.
32. Give assumption bearing bolt.
33. Give the rupture strength of plate of size 100×10mm of grade Fe 410.
34. Give yielding strength of plate size 100×10 mm in yielding of grade Fe 410S
35. Give the shear capacity of the bolt of grade 4.6 in single shear of diameter M16.

mm thick plate of assume pitch 50mm and edge distance 30 mm.
37. Give the size of the hole for 20 diameter bolt.
38. Give bolt value of M22 bolt of grade 4.6 connecting 10 mm plate in single bolted lap
joint at pitch of 80 mm and having edge distance 50mm. Also find efficiency of the joint
39. Determine the design strength of solid plate of size 100×10mm of grade Fe410.
40. Find the efficiency of the lap joint shown in Fig. Given: 18 diameter bolts of grade 4.6
and Fe 410 (E 250) plates are used.

41. Find the efficiency of the joint, if in the previous example instead of lap, butt joint is
made using two cover plates each of size 10 mm and 6 numbers of bolts on each side.
42. Design a lap joint between the two plates each of width 80 mm, if the thickness of one
plate is 12 mm and the other is 20 mm The joint has to transfer a design load of 70 kN.
The plates are of Fe 410 grade. Use M16 bearing type bolts of grade 4.6 and steel of
grade Fe410
43. Find the maximum permissible force which can be transferred through the double
covered butt joint shown in Fig. Find the efficiency of the joint also. Given M18 bolts of
grade 4.6 and Fe 410 steel plates are used.
