COURSE DESCRIPTION
General Physics II (Electricity & Magnetism) is a foundational 2-unit course designed to delve into the
fundamental principles governing electricity and magnetism. Over the span of 12 weeks, students will embark on a
comprehensive journey exploring the intricate interplay between electric and magnetic phenomena. Through a
combination of theoretical insights, mathematical analyses, and practical applications, students will develop a
robust understanding of electromagnetism and its significance in modern physics and engineering.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the course, students should be able to

1. Describe the nature of electric charge and its properties, elucidating concepts such as Coulomb's law, electric
field, and potential.
2. Calculate electrostatic properties using mathematical frameworks including Gauss’s law, enabling the
determination of electric field and potential in various scenarios.
3. Explain the behavior of magnetic fields for both static and moving charges, employing Biot-Savart and
Ampère’s laws to analyze magnetic properties.
4. Explore electromagnetic induction principles, including Faraday and Lenz’s laws, and apply them to
practical scenarios such as transformers.
5. Examine the profound implications of Maxwell's equations, integrating them into the broader framework of
electromagnetism.
6. Evaluate direct current (DC) circuits to determine electrical parameters and analyze alternating current (AC)
circuits, discerning the behavior of resistors, capacitors, and inductors.
