Introduction
• A jack is mechanical device used to lift heavy loads or apply
great forces. Jacks employ a screw thread or hydraulic cylinder
to apply very high linear forces.
• A mechanical jack is a device which lifts heavy equipment.
• The most common form is a car jack, floor jack or garage jack
which lifts vehicles so that maintenance can be performed.
• Car jacks usually use mechanical advantage to allow a human
to lift a vehicle by manual force alone.
• More powerful jacks use hydraulic power to provide more lift
over greater distances.
• Mechanical jacks are usually rated for a maximum lifting
capacity.

Objectives
• The project relates to the designing of simple scissor jack and
its analysis along with structural improvements to make such a
modified jack that is very stable and can take enough load on
uneven surfaces and somewhat inclination is also allowed.
• To study the reliability and performance of scissor jack, it is
tested under various conditions for failure analysisr replacing
the tire.
• To reduce the no. of parts for simplifying the assembly process.
• Remove welding to avoid distortion.
• Product should withstand the current strength requirements.

• Analysis on Mild Steel and Stainless Steel Scissor Jack is done in order to
optimize strength of Scissor Jack
•A structural analysis has been carried out to investigate the stresses,
strains and displacements of the jack and modal analysis has been carried
out to investigate the frequency and deflection of the jack.

Expected Outcomes
•Most of the scissor jack are made up with Mild Steel which has
more density. In addition to this it has high corrosion and less
fatigue strength.
•The mild steel can be replaced with alloy material (e.g. SS ,
Aluminum alloys) to reduce the weight, improve corrosion
resistance and fatigue strength is more as compare to different
alloys material and composite material.
