then. He performs regularly with the DeSoto Brass Band, Lawrence City Band and plays at
area churches. He is married to Paige Robinson (saxophone player), Librarian at Broken

Scott and his siblings, Kathy Roesler, Steven Robinson, Karen Rogers and Randy Robinson
would like to dedicate this concert to their father, Ret. CSM Leland L. Robinson.
SPC Trevor Duell is a native of Salina, KS and is currently stationed at Ft. Riley. He is a
recipient of the prestigious Col. Findley R. Hamilton Outstanding Military Musician
Award, distinguishing himself in the top 1% of all military musicians. Prior to joining the
1st Infantry Division Band, Duell was a teaching fellow at the University of North Texas.
There he taught undergraduate applied trumpet lessons, performed in the UNT Wind
Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Baroque Orchestra. Additionally, he has performed
with the Lone Star Wind Orchestra under the direction of Eugene Corporon. While at UNT,
Trevor earned a Doctorate in Musical Arts in trumpet performance. He also holds degrees
from Lamar University, Beaumont TX, and Fort Hays State University. He recorded
extensively with LSWO and the UNT Wind Symphony on the GIA label. His primary
teachers include Keith Johnson, Brian Shook, Brad Dawson, and Roger Thorstenburg.
Trevor currently lives off post with his wife, Michelle, son Adam, and two corgis.
Honoring Leland L. Robinson
In 1968, Leland was promoted to the rank of Command Sergeant Major (E9) while
serving in Vietnam. At age 36, he was the youngest soldier at that time to be
promoted to the CSM rank. When he retired in 1972, his service medals included
two Combat Infantry Badges (Korea and RVN), Army Commendation Medal, Air
Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and Silver Star.
After retirement from active duty, his civilian career was in finance –
primarily Civil Service in the Payroll unit at Fort Riley. During his civilian years,
CSM (ret.) Robinson was very active in community affairs, both local and
national. He served terms as president of both the Junction City Kiwanis Club and
the Sertoma Club. He served on the Junction City Crime Stoppers committee.
Most recently, Leland regularly delivered Meals on Wheels in Junction City. He
was elected National President of the organization now known as the Armed
Forces E9 Association, and hosted two national meetings in Junction City.
The first Junction City municipal band, which was formed in 1868, had 13
members, only three of whom had played in a band before. The group was
called “The Junction City Cornet Band” and performed free weekly concerts
during the summer in Heritage Park. George Kilian was the
player-turned-director until 1899.
The band continued to perform in Junction City until 1963 despite a variety of
funding problems.
In 1973 the bandstand in Heritage Park was demolished due to its unsafe
condition. Under the direction of David Carlson, a summer city band played
concerts in
Heritage Park in the early 1990s.
The band concerts were moved from Heritage Park to the C.L. Hoover Opera
House in 2010, where the tradition of providing free concerts to the public has
been maintained.
USD 475 has provided rehearsal space, instruments and sheet music and the CL
Hoover Opera House has provided rehearsal and storage space. This has been
invaluable in keeping our costs to a minimum.
