ABSTRACT
• Higher data rates, so more information may be transmitted in less time and using lower
power.
• Lower overall power requirements.
• Thinner and light-weighted.
• The antennas can be much smaller.
• Cost of installation is very less.
• Optical fiber supports a bandwidth of very large range and one cable combines many
fibers.
• Higher carrying capacity.
• Less signal degradation.
• Long lifespan.
DISADVANTAGES
• Low power—Light emitting sources are limited to low power.
Although high power emitters are available to improve power
supply, it would add extra cost.
• Fragility—Optical fiber is rather fragile and more vulnerable to
damage compared to copper wires. You’d better not to twist or
bend fiber optic cables too tightly.
• Distance—The distance between the transmitter and receiver
should keep short or repeaters are needed to boost the signal.
FUTURE ACTIVITY
• A future in the field of satellite communication that has great ecological
significance is the sending of a large number of satellites into orbit, which
will have the role of monitoring and controlling the pollution of the ocean.
• In future, optical satellite communication is most likely to find applications
in satellite-oriented air traffic management, customized land mobile radio
broadcasting, and aeronautical satellite communication.
• Another future trend in the field of satellite communication is certainly the
increased employment opportunities, due to new projects, jobs and
generally greater needs in this sector.
• One of the future trends that many are looking forward to is the satellite
network being developed by the private space company SpaceX. The goal
of this project is to provide cheap internet in various, remote locations and
to form a unique internet network that will make life easier for all people.
