Logging Flight Time • What is the ABSOLUTE minimum? • Date • Total Time • Location (Depart/Arrive) • Aircraft ID • PIC/SIC/Dual • Conditions (Day / Night / Instrument)
Logging Time – General (1.1) • Flight Time Means: 1) Pilot time that commences when an aircraft moves under its own power for the purpose of flight and ends when the aircraft comes to rest after landing, or: 2) Glider stuff…
PIC Time – 61.51 (e) • (4) Student Pilot • Sole occupant with a solo endorsement and undergoing training • (1) Private Pilot • Sole manipulator of the controls for which he is rated • Sole occupant • More than one pilot needed under Type Certificate • Performs the duties of PIC under supervision
Instrument Time – 61.51 (g) • A person may log instrument time only for that flight time when the person operates the aircraft solely by reference to the instruments under actual or simulated conditions. • Actual • Simulated • If not with an instructor: The name of the Safety Pilot • Can use simulator time if Authorized Instructor is present and signs.
Training Time – 61.51 (h) • A person may log training time when that person receives training from an authorized instructor in an aircraft, flight simulator, or flight training device. • The training time must be logged in a logbook and must: • Be endorsed legibly by instructor • Include a description of the training given and the length of the training • Signature of the instructor, certificate number and date of expiration
Presentation of Documents – 61.51(i) • Everyone must present logbooks, medical, government ID and Pilot Certificates upon request by: • Administrator • Law Enforcement • NTSB • STUDENT PILOT: • Logbook • Student Pilot Certificate • Medical • Government Issued ID
Airline Ink Preferences • Many Airlines Prefer the logbook to be only Black Ink • Never use any color BUT BLACK • Ensure that Instructors use BLACK ONLY to sign • Consider a “logbook pen”
Where to Keep Your Logbook / Medical • Prior to Private Pilot: • Keep in Flight Bag • Medical to stay with Logbook • After Private Pilot: • Cut out medical from student pilot certificate • Place medical in wallet behind Pilot Certificate • Keep logbook at home unless training • Do NOT carry logbook with you unless you are at a training event
Tallying • Add Page • Then add amount forward to get Total • Then place Total in amount forward on the next page • Always tally after completion of a page • Never go one flight without tallying!
