INTRODUCTIO
N

 Li-Fi stands for Light-Fidelity

 Li-Fi can be thought of as a light based Wi-Fi.
 visible light can be used to transmit data more faster and efficiently
 Li-Fi comprises of frequencies and wavelength ranging from the infrared
through visible and down to the ultraviolet spectrum.
 The Light communication can transmit the data with some limitations when
compared to the radio waves
 In short, at a single point of time a single data can be transmitted
INTRODUCTION
Cont..
 The technology truly began during the 1990’s in countries like Germany,
Korea, and Japan where they discovered LED’s could be retrofitted to send
information.
 Harald Haas continues to wow the world with the potential to use light for
communication.
 Professor Harald Haas and his team of researchers are pioneers in the field of
Li-Fi. They began their research into VLC technology as early as 2006.
OBJECTIVE
S
 To provide an efficient, low cost, secure data transmission
 To construct a very simple and easily understandable model
 To discover more Innovative applications and to make use of it
 To educate users about the benefits of Li-Fi technology, promoting its adoption
in various sectors.

PROBLEM STATEMENT

 Wi-Fi has a lot of limitations and is facing a lot of threats nowadays.

Threats like someone not authorized to access your network can access
it, or steal your information.
 Another limitation could be the speed. It is good enough for a small
group of people to use but not for office use.
MOTIVATION

 With Li-Fi, the world can avoid the spectrum crunch or overwhelming
demand for data.
 Digital signals transmitted by light are way faster than those carried
through radio waves. Companies that tested Li-Fi projected it to be up to
1000 times faster than Wi-Fi.
 It can transmit 224GB of data per second
METHODOLOG
Y
 In this project, we propose a novel method of data communication
using Li-Fi technology.
 The Light data from app which is then received by an Arduino Uno
board using an LDR sensor.
 The received data is then displayed on an LCD screen.

RESULT AND
ANALYSIS
 The text will be displayed in the output
LED board which we gave as input through
the mobile phone’s flashlight and with the
help of LDR module
RESULT AND
ANALYSIS
 The only problem associated with the li-fi is that the transmission rate
(or) data rate reduces with increase in the distance. But if we use
stronger light source like laser, we can overcome this kind of drawbacks
COMPARISON BETWEEN Li-Fi
AND Wi-Fi
PARAMETER LIGHT FIDELITY WIRELESS FIDELITY

Speed for data transfer Faster transfer speed (1 Gbps) Data Transfer speed (150 Mbps)

Medium through which data Used Light as a carrier Used Radio spectrum
transfers occurs

Cost Cheaper than Wi-Fi because free Expensive in comparison to Li-Fi

band doesn’t need license and it because its uses radio spectrum
uses light
Network topology Point to point Point to multipoint

Operating frequency Hundreds of Tera Hz 24 GHz

ADVANTAGES OF Li-
Fi
 High speed
 Availableness:
 Cheaper

DISADVANTAGES OF Li-Fi
 Line of sight
 unlike Wi-Fi we cannot move to other rooms
 Li-Fi doesn’t work in dark
APPLICATIONS OF
Li-Fi
 Medical Applications
 Disaster management
 Replacement for other technologies
 This can be used for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside
communications.
FUTURE
DEVELOPMENTS
 It will give the field of IOT a considerable boost
 Underwater communication will become much easier with the use of
Li-Fi.
 It will be safeguarding us from unwanted hackers.
 it will become more portable
CONCLUSI
ON
 By the end of the next decade, Wi-Fi usage will have significantly
increased, which could be bad for human health given the high radio
frequency exposure.
 As a result, Li-Fi technology can be utilized as a replacement for Wi-Fi
because it increases data transmission capabilities while being more safer
in big doses.
 Visible Light Communication is a rapidly growing segment of the field of
communication.
