By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to

2. State the steps to boot a computer correctly

4. Define shutting down a computer

To change the column width, follow these steps;
1. Click the column header or drag to select more columns
2. Click the Home tab
3. Click the format button
4. Click column width
5. Type a new width
6. Click OK
WHAT IS BOOTING
Booting is the process of switching on
the computer and starting the operating
system
BOOTING THE COMPUTER
To turn on the computer;
1. Press the power button on the monitor
2. Press the power button on the system unit.
3. Allow the booting operations to complete
before you can start using the computer.

The term shutting down means
closing all programs in
preparation to turn ‘off a
computers power.
STEPS TO SHUT DOWN A COMPUTER

• Click on the start or windows


button
• Click on “Turn Off Computer” or
“shutdown” from the pop up
menu that appears
• Click on the “Turn Off” button
REBOOTING THE COMPUTER
Rebooting is also known as
restarting which refers to the
process of restarting the computer
after it has been in operation for a
while. It is also known “WARM
BOOTING”.
REASONS FOR REBOOTING
• After installation of computer
software programs
• When a peripheral device is
attached to the computer
• Another reason is the condition
known as “freezing”.
METHODS INVOLVE IN REBOOTING A COMPUTER

There are four methods involve in


rebooting a computer. These are:
Using the reboot tab
Using the CTRL, ALT and DEL
buttons – Used when the
computer freezes
Using the reset button
Using the Alt + F4 at the
Windows Desktop

Turning off is to remove power from a
computer’s main components in a
controlled way.
