INTRODUCTION
• In 2008, 26 November, 9 terrorists
attacked Taj hotel, Oberoi Hotel and
Nariman House at Mumbai and killed
almost 200 people and about 300
were seriously injured in these three
places. It took three days for NSG
commandos to overcome these
terrorist.
Targeted Locations
• Taj Mahal Palace Hotel: One group of attackers entered
the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and launched a siege that
lasted for several days. They took hostages and engaged in
gun battles with security forces.
• Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST): Another group of
attackers targeted the CST railway station, opening fire on
commuters and causing panic and casualties.
• Leopold Cafe: The attackers also targeted the popular
Leopold Cafe, a popular hangout for tourists and locals,
where they carried out shootings and grenade attacks.
• Cama Hospital: The attackers targeted Cama and Albless
Hospital, resulting in casualties and a confrontation with
security forces.
REASONS OF ATTACK
• Kashmir Conflict: One of the key motives
behind the attacks was to draw attention to the
Kashmir conflict and to put pressure on India
regarding its policies in Kashmir.
• Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Agenda: The attacks were
carried out by members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a
Pakistan-based militant organization. LeT has a
long-standing agenda of targeting India,
particularly in response to the Kashmir issue.
EFFECTS OF ATTACK
• Loss of Life and Injuries: The attacks resulted in
the loss of over 160 lives and left hundreds
injured, causing immense grief and trauma to the
victims' families and the nation as a whole.
• Security Measures: The attacks exposed
vulnerabilities in India's security infrastructure,
leading to a reevaluation and strengthening of
security measures across the country.
IMPACT ON TOURISM AND ECONOMY
• Immediate Disruption: The attacks caused an
immediate disruption to tourism and business
activities in Mumbai. Hotels, restaurants, and
other tourist destinations were directly affected,
leading to cancellations and reduced footfall.
• Economic Losses: The attacks resulted in
economic losses due to disrupted business
operations, decreased tourist arrivals, and a
slowdown in commercial activities.
CONCLUSION
• Arms purchase has increased in India, not only
in Maharashtra but by central government
and army too.
• Emergency preparedness and rapid response.
• Ensuring greater coordination on regular basis
between police and vulnerable private sector
targets.
