Exploring Sampling Distribution of Sample Means
Distribution of Sample
Means
November 25 – December 3, 2024
Example 1: A population consists of the numbers 2, 4, 9, 10 and 5. List all
the possible samples of size 3 from this populations and compute the
mean of each samples.
Step 1: There are 10 possible samples of size 3 that can be drawn from the
given population. (NCn = 5C3 = 10)

the possible samples of size 3 from this populations and compute the
mean of each samples.
Step 2: Construct a frequency distribution of the sample means. We shall
call this frequency distribution the sampling distribution of the sample
means.

Sampling Error – the difference between the sample mean and the
population mean. It is the error due to sampling.
We use the formula: sampling error =
Using the sample means obtained from Example 1, compute the sampling error for
each of the samples.

How many unique samples of size 3 can be selected from the following
populations?
1)N = 4
2)N = 8
3)N = 20
4)N = 50
Let us try this: A population consists of the numbers 2, 3, 6, 8, and 11.
Consider samples of size 2 that can be drawn from this population.
1) List all the possible samples and the corresponding mean.
2) Construct the sampling distribution of the sample means.
