WHAT IS MLA STYLE?
-(Modern Language Association) is a citation format used mainly in
the humanities, such as literature, philosophy, and the arts.
-MLA style paper, you must create two citations, or references, to show
the reader where the information originated. One reference is placed
in the written text of the paper, and the other is placed at the end
of the project.
-The reference that is placed in the written text of the paper, called an in-
text citation, emphasizes the author’s name and page number in
in-text citations.
Format:
Author’s Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. Edition (if
applicable), Publisher, Year.
Example:
Smith, John. Understanding Psychology. 3rd ed., Pearson,
2020.

Example (with an author):

• Font: Use a readable font like Times New Roman (12), Arial (11), or
Calibri (11).
• Spacing: Double-spaced throughout.
• Margins: 1-inch margins on all sides.
• Indentation: First line of each paragraph indented 0.5 inches.
• Page Numbers: In the top right corner of each page.

• If no author is available, use the organization
name as the author.
• If no publication date is provided, use (n.d.)
instead of the year.
• Always use the hanging indent format for the
reference list (the first line is left-aligned, and
the rest are indented
The difference of MLA format and APA
format
Author’s name: For APA style, only the first letter
of the name is written. Unlike in MLA, the full
name is completely written.

format
Title of the book: APA style uses the sentence style of
writing where the letters are capitalized.
MLA, on the other hand capitalizes the first letter of
important words. Both styles italicized the title of the
book

The difference of MLA format and APA
Date of publication: The date of publication is written
format
automatically after the name of the author in the APA style. It
is also enclosed in parentheses. However, in MLA, the date is
written last.
