Project Bekp4873 1 - 201920

This document provides details for an individual project assignment on power system protection. Students must design overcurrent protection for the radial distribution system shown in Figure 1 using software like PSCAD or CAPE. The report to the manager must include equipment ratings, current transformer ratings, relay plug and time multiplier settings, power flow and fault analysis, and proof the relays operate correctly during faults. The submission deadline is during study week. The topic is IDMT relay.

BEKP 4873: Power System Protection

Individual project
Submission deadline is on study week
Topic: IDMT relay

You are an electrical consultant in your M&E company. You are given a task to
design and develop an overcurrent protection of a radial distribution system as
shown in Figure 1 by using any power system software available in the faculty
(PSCAD, CAPE or etc.).

Note:
a) PSCAD and CAPE are available at Power System Protection Lab (Block F,
Ground Floor with room no. F/G-27).
b) Set the rating on your own for each equipment. Clearly state all the power
system data such as generator rating, transformer rating, cable size, cable
length, load, any assumptions used and etc.

Write a report to your manager. Your report must include part b), the suitable
current transformer (CT) rating, OC relay Plug setting (PS) and Time Multiplier
setting (TMS). Clear calculation must be shown. Then from the simulation,
please include the power flow and three phase short circuit analysis. Finally,
proved that the operation of the relays during fault was successful. (relay trip in
the right place at the right time.)
