1. There is evidence from the data that ownership of TV sets is related to level of income. The data shows that as income levels increase from low to middle to high, the percentage of households that own a TV set also increases.
2. The examination results are not commensurate with the general examination ratio of 4:3:2:1. The data shows a higher percentage of students failed and in the third class than expected from the given ratio.
3. The number of scooter accidents per week in a town are not in agreement that accident conditions were the same during the 10-week period. The data shows variation in the number of accidents from week to week, indicating conditions likely differed.

A manufacturer of TV sets was trying to find out what variables
influenced the purchase of a TV set. Level of income was suggested as a possible variable influencing the purchase of TV sets. A sample of 500 households was selected and the information obtained is classified as shown below:
Income Group Have Tv Set Do not have TV Set
Low income group 0 250 Middle income group 50 100 High income group 80 20
Is there evidence from the above data of a relation ownership of TV sets
and level of income?
2. A sample analysis of examination results of 500 students was made. It
was found that 220 students had failed, 170 had secured a third class, 90 were placed in second class, and 20 got a first class. Are these figures commensurate with the general examination result which is in the ratio of 4 : 3 : 2 : 1 for the various categories respectively. 3. The number of scooter accidents per week in a certain town were as follows:
Are these frequencies in agreement with the belief that accident conditions were the same during this 10-week period?
4. Calcium is an essential mineral that regulates the heart, is important for
blood clotting and for building healthy bones. The National osteoporosis Foundation recommends a daily calcium intake of 1000-1200 mg/day for adult men and women. While calcium is contained in some foods, most adults do not get enough calcium in their diets and take supplements. Unfortunately some of the supplements have side effects such as gastric distress, making them difficult for some patients to take on a regular basis. A study is designed to test whether there is a difference in mean daily calcium intake in adults with normal bone density, adults with osteopenia (a low bone density which may lead to osteoporosis) and adults with osteoporosis. Adults 60 years of age with normal bone density, osteopenia and osteoporosis are selected at random from hospital records and invited to participate in the study. Each participant's daily calcium intake is measured based on reported food intake and supplements. The data are shown below.
