Self-Reflection: Egipto, Crystal Mae S. Bspsych2

Normal distribution is used to describe how variables are distributed in many natural phenomena like heights, weights, ages of events. It has a bell-shaped curve and is the most important probability distribution in statistics. Some advantages are that it is analytically tractable, symmetric, and the Central Limit Theorem shows it can approximate other distributions in large samples. To tell if data is normally distributed, it will have a bell shape, be symmetric around the mean, have equal mean, median and mode, be denser in the center and less dense in the tails, and about 68% and 95% of the data will be within 1 and 2 standard deviations of the mean. Z-scores allow calculating the probability of a score occurring within the normal

SELF-REFLECTION
1. How is Normal Distribution used in real life?
As per definition, normal distribution is a probability function that describes how
the values of a variable are distributed. Here, we can pull off the connection of it
to real life as almost everything is measured through different possibilities and
numbers. According to Frost (2020), a normal distribution is the most important
probability distribution in statistics because it fits many natural phenomena. For
examples, we can use normal distribution in having what age does children have
chicken pox; how long it takes a person to complete a college degree; taking IQ
scores; income distribution in the economy; getting heights, weights, blood
measures of different populations; measurement errors and many more real life
events.

     2. What are the advantages of normal distribution?

As cited in the internet, normal distribution has several advantages over the other
distributions. It says that normal distribution and distributions associated with it
are very tractable and analytically; normal distribution has the familiar bell shape,
whose symmetry makes it an appealing choice for many popular models; and
also here, there is the Central Limit Theorem, which shows that, under mild
conditions, the normal distribution can be used to approximate a large variety of
distributions in large samples.

3. How do you tell if your data is normally distributed?

In graph form, normal distribution will appear as a bell shape curve. We can tell
that our data is normally distributed when; normal distributions are symmetric
around their mean; mean, median and mode of a normal distribution are equal,
the area under the normal curve is equal to 1.0; normal distributions are denser in
the center and less dense in the tails; 68% of the normal distribution is within one
standard deviation of the mean and approximately 95% of the area of a normal
distribution is within two standard deviations of the mean.

     4. What are z-scores used in real life?

Z-score is a very useful statistic because it allows to calculate the probability of a
score occurring within the normal distribution. These are universally understood
units in testing that allows test users to evaluate a person’s performance in
reference to other persons who took the same or similar test. For example,
through this statistic, we can get the average score of a group of students on
their mathematics exam or anything that you want to research.
