Module Introduction
This module will contribute a great help to the students to define what is PEC CODE 1 and 2,
identify the different parts of PEC Code, explain the different parts of PEC Code and explain the
different parts of PEC Code
This course is intended for regular third year Electrical Engineering students.
This will help the students to attain the following Intended Learning Output
There is a Module Exercises at the end of every topic for the students to answer and review all
the lessons that they learned.

Note: A single residence with 10 kW or more initial load requires a 100A service. Lighting outlet
shall be separated from the circuit of convenient outlet except in occupancy where the total
connected load does not exceed 15A.
Note: The above ratings were based on full voltage or across the line starter and can go
lower to 150% of FLA and 200% of FLA for CB & fuses respectively if starters were
used.
HAZARDOUS LOCATION:
1. Class I- Locations in which flammable gases or vapors are or may be present in the air
sufficient to produced explosive or ignitable mixtures. (ex. Gasoline terminals, distilery,
pharmaceuticals etc)
2. Clas II- Locationss in which hazardous because of the presence of combustible dust. (Ex.
Firecracker maker, match maker, dyanmite plant etc)
3. Clas III- Location in which are hazardous because of the presence easily ignitable fibers
and fyings ( EX. Textile plant, paper, saw mills etc)
GROUNDING SYSTEM
1. System Grounding- a system or circuit conductor that is intentionally grounded.
2. Equipment Grounding- the conductors used to connect the non current carrying metal
parts of equipment to the system ground conductor at the service equipment
3. Grounding Conductor- a conductor used to connect equipment to grounded circuit of
a wiring system to a grounding electrode
LIGHTING DESIGN
Lighting design is a combination of applied art and applied science
c) Combined General & Local Lighting- is used in space where general visual
task is low but supplementary lighting is required in a limited area of
particular task.
2. Lumens (Flux Method)
Lumen method of calculation is a procedure for determining the average
maintained illumination on the working plane in a room. The method pre
supposed that luminaire will be spread so that uniformity of illumination is
provided.
3. Flood Lighting
It means “flooding” of large surface with help of light from powerful projectors. It
uses are for aesthetics advertising and industrial/commercial lighting schemes.
