ANSWERS:

1. The wavelength and frequency of light are closely related. The higher the frequency, the shorter

the wavelength. Because all light waves move through a vacuum at the same speed, the number
of wave crests passing by a given point in one second depends on the wavelength.
2.  the energy goes up as the frequency increases, the energy is directly proportional to the frequency.
Because frequency and wavelength are related by a constant (c) the energy can also be written in
terms of wavelength: E = h · c / λ. When the energy increases the wavelength decreases and vice
versa.

3.  frequency and wavelength are related by a constant (c) the energy can also be written in terms

of wavelength: E = h · c / λ. When the energy increases the wavelength decreases and vice versa.
That is, energy in inversely proportional to wavelength.

4. The sequence from longest wavelength (radio waves) to shortest wavelength (gamma rays) is also

a sequence in energy from lowest energy to highest energy. Remember that waves transport
energy from place to place. The energy carried by a radio wave is low, while the energy carried by
a gamma ray is high.

5. Radio waves completely different physical objects than other parts of EM Spectrum. They are
produced in different processes and are detected in different ways, but they are not fundamentally
different. Radio waves, gamma-rays, visible light, and all the other parts of the electromagnetic
spectrum are electromagnetic radiation.

6. The different types of radiation are defined by the the amount of energy found in the photons.

Radio waves have photons with low energies, microwave photons have a little more energy than
radio waves, infrared photons have still more, then visible, ultraviolet, X-rays, and, the most
energetic of all, gamma-rays.

WHAT’S MORE

Question:
 What is the relationship between the wavelength frequency and energy of
electromagnetic waves?
(Answer):
The energy of a wave is directly proportional to its frequency and inversely proportional to its
wavelength. In other words, the greater the energy, the larger the frequency and the shorter the
wavelength. Given the relationship between wavelength and frequency, it follows that short wavelengths
are more energetic than long wavelengths.
ACTIVITY 4:
Draw inside the box the wavelength of the following types of
waves and create an arrow below that illustrates its frequency and
wavelength.

 How does the evidences of continental drift and sea floor spreading proves that the plate moves?
Answer:
Seafloor spreading helps explain continental drift in the theory of plate tectonics. When
oceanic plates diverge, tensional stress causes fractures to occur in the lithosphere. ... At
a spreading center, basaltic magma rises up the fractures and cools on the ocean floor to form
new seabed.

1. Describe in your own words the wavelength and frequency of the different types
of waves.
( Answer) :
Wavelength can be defined as the distance between two successive crest or thoughts of a wave.
Wavelength is inversely proportional to frequency. This mens the langer the wavelength the lower the
frequency. In the same manner, shorter the wavelength the higher will be frequency.

ACTIVITY 5: Part I. Provide the necessary information to complete the

paragraph.

Electromagnetic spectrum is the term used by the SCIENTISTS to

describe the entire range of light that exists. It comprises of RADIO WAVES ,
MICROWAVES , INFARED , VISIBLE LIGHT , ULTRAVIOLET ,
X-RAYS , and GAMMA RAYS . Gamma rays has a HIGHEST
frequency and SHORTEST wavelength while radio waves have a lowest
FREQUENCY and has a longest wavelength.

Part II. Compare the electromagnetic radiation in terms
