6. PRE-ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES
- Now before we have the orientation proper, I will be administering first a Data
Gathering Instrument, which will be used to determine your trainees’
characteristics. The results of this form will provide me as your trainer valuable
information on how I will manage the future training sessions based on your
specific individual characteristics. Kindly answer this instrument as honestly as
possible and you will be provided with 5 minutes to complete this form.
- Alright, is everyone finished? Okay, we will be evaluating the results of this
instrument after our orientation proper. This time I want you to answer this pre –
assessment and the purpose of this is just to gauge whether or not you have prior
learning or experience in the topics that will be included in the training sessions of
our qualification.
- Part of this pre – assessment is the Self – Assessment Check, where you will be
evaluating yourself whether or not you have prior knowledge regarding our
qualification. The form will be having an option for yes or no statements, to ask
yourself if you can perform what is identified in the statements.
- Another one is a Pre – Test, which is only a diagnostic tool, it is to check whether
or not you have background knowledge on the qualification So, you will be given
about 10 minutes to complete this self – evaluation.
- Okay, are you done? Kindly submit your papers and I will check and evaluate your
answer.
- (Collect the forms from the participants and thank them.) Alright, thank you so
much.

7. ORIENTATION PROPER
- Let us now have our orientation.
CBT
- In PTC – Samar Calbayog, we are providing training for different qualifications
and since this is a technical vocational institution, we are using the Competency –
Based Training delivery as our training approach or mode or delivery in facilitating
training for all of our qualifications.
- So, what is competency – based training?
- Does anyone here know what is CBT or Competency Based Training?
- From the word itself CBT it is a training delivery approach that focuses on the
competency development of the learner as a result of the training.
- Also, CBT is a training that is designed to allow a learner to demonstrate their
ability to do something, meaning this emphasizes most on what the learner can
actually do and focuses on outcomes rather than the learning process within
specified time. It is concerned with the attainment and application of knowledge,
skills and attitude to a specific level of competency.
- Okey, so now let us differentiate the traditional and competency-based training.
- So, in traditional learning has taught us that if we want to get a degree, we need
to study certain topics, complete the assignments, apply ourselves in exams and
finish the course within a specific timeframe. But in competency-based training is
that we learn individually in our own preference, because it is self-paced and
individualized. Prior learning is recognized, so if you knew already a topic you may
proceed to the next topic. You may conduct practice anytime and most of all your
trainer/facilitator are always there to guide and help you.
CBT PRINCIPLES (ATLEAST THREE)
- We are also guided with 10 Principles of CBT.
1. THE TRAINING IS BASED ON CURRICULUM FROM THE COMPETENCY STANDARD
meaning all learning materials and resources that we use in this training is based
in the competency standard.
2. LEARNING IS COMPETENCY BASED OR MODULAR IN STRUCTURE meaning in this
training we have curriculum that we follow, each module has task that you need to
do or competency that you need to meet and learned as a trainee.
10. APPROVED TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE NATIONALLY ACCREDITED meaning if
you already have a training experience background in this qualification or previous
job experience you have the freedom to exit or enter in different competency or
proceed in the next competency.
- Okay, do you have any questions so far?
ROLE AS A TRAINER
- In CBT there are two people involve that is ME, and YOU.
- Each of us have distinguished roles and responsibilities to carry out the lesson.
- What are the roles of a trainer? And how is it different from a teacher? As you can
see in the slide, the function of “To teach” is not included as a trainer. I am here
more on to facilitate, to provide guidance, to assist, evaluate and provide feedback
on your performances and outputs. So I am not here to teach you, but rather to
guide you and facilitate your progress in learning the skills of the qualification.
ROLE AS A TRAINEE
- Now what are your roles as a trainee of this qualification? So, all of you are
considered as Adult Learners, you are not students anymore in the confines of a
classroom, but are considered as trainees, you are training and practicing the
application of your knowledge, skills and attitudes as a future employee or
entrepreneur of your chosen industry.
- So, you have to (1) accomplish what is required, number (2) you have to present
or perform individual tasks and the last number (3) you are responsible for your
keeping track of your own progress or performance.
- The bottom line is that we must all be responsible for our own attitudes and
performance within the training center because you are all adults and we all have
different characteristics that must be respected by each one. So these are your
roles as a trainee.
QUALIFICATION
- In CBT we have the process to follow.
- For the competencies of the Organic Agriculture Production NCII we have the
basic, common, core and elective competencies. Given the fact that all of you are
adult learners, you have entered and finished formal education at the very least
until your secondary education or high school level, so we are just going to refresh
on those competencies that you have acquired.
- Let us proceed with the core competencies of Organic Agriculture Production
NCII.
- After successfully acquiring and completing all of these competencies, you will
be entitled with the certificate of completion in the Organic Agriculture Production
NCII.
- So, I hope everyone is excited to learn and start the conduct of training of our
qualification.
- So, the training duration has a total of 232 hours – including basic and common
competencies and if converted into days, we will be finished in about 29 days. With
that do you have any questions?
CBLM
- So, let us proceed to Competency-Based Learning Module, what is CBLM?
- CBLM is serves as guide and manual through out of the training and it is
developed learning material that gives trainee’s instructions to guide them to
learning process.
- I have here the CBLM or Competency Based Learning Materials for your guide in
Organic Agriculture Production NC II.
- Every CBLM covers one unit of competency for you to read, understand and
follow.
- You can read the information sheet, then answer the self-check.
- Compare your answer w/ the answer key.
- For your task follow the task sheet, and perform the steps and procedure same
with the job sheet.
- Then, evaluate your performance using the performance criteria checklist.
MONITORING TOOLS SUCH AS PROGRESS CHART AND ACHIEVEMENT CHART
- This is to Monitor your (trainee’s) progress in training
- An update on your performance will be reflected on the Progress and
Achievement chart (post it and show the charts mention its contents:
Progress Chart it will show the Learning outcomes and competencies that each
trainee will achieve.
Achievement Chart, this will monitor and record the required activities and projects
that you accomplished based from the job and task sheets in your CBLM
EVALUATION
- Unlike in the traditional classroom set-up wherein there are so many
components to consider either you are going to pass or not. Under the CBT, three
important mechanisms are considered these are your Knowledge, Attitude and
Skills.
- You will be rated through… Written Exam, Demonstration and Oral Questioning.
- Once you have completed all assessment items for a unit successfully, you will be
recorded as being “competent” for that unit.

8. WORKSHOP LAY-OUT (Tour)

- And now, I will be giving you a brief/short tour of our CBT facilities that we will
use in the training and the functions of each area, so that when we are having our
training, I provide you some instructions on where to proceed during the conduct
of the training, you will already be familiar with the components of our CBT
Workshop.
- We have here the Practical Work Area wherein we are going to practice our skills
and perform our task and job sheets.
- This area is called the Institutional Assessment Area, wherein we are going to
demonstrate the skills that we have already learned or acquired – this is also where
we recognize your prior learning by way of taking a series of tests to confirm your
RPL.
- This one is the Learning Resource Area the place where the CBLM’s, session
plans, training matrix, monitoring tools and other learning resources stored.
- Then this area is the Contextual Learning Area, which ensures that the
underpinning knowledge, science, mathematics and communication principles as
applied to the technology are provided to the trainees.
- That one is the Quality Control Area, where the finished products are to be
checked in compliance of the quality standards.
- Next to quality control area is the Support Service Area this area provides value-
adding competencies as such for Organic Agriculture Production NCII, produce or
raise organic competency address underpinning skills in the particular
competency.
- This is the Computer Area, where you can browse information related to your
qualification you enrolled as well as gain IT competencies.
- And last but not the least is the Distance Learning Area, an area for training
provision outside or away from the training institution, it may be in a form of print
and non-print media.
- OUR COMFORT ROOM- IS LOCATED IN THE NEXT BUILDING…….
- FIRE EXIT is over there.
9. SHORT BREAK
- Okay you can go back now to your seat. Do you have any questions so far? So,
this time I will be providing you with a short break, let us all meet again after 15
minutes.
- Thank you for attending this orientation.
10. ACKNOWLEDGE PRIOR LEARNING/FEEDBACKING
11. ASSIGN UNIT OF COMPETENCIES
- WELCOME BACK TRAINEES, how was your break time, is it good?
- Nice, good to hear that!
- I hope you have had the chance to familiarize yourselves with our workshop
during the breaktime. Alright, so I will call you one by one and I will provide you
with the feedback on your previously answered forms. Let us start with Liza Joy Y.
Flores.
- Based on your accomplished trainee’s characteristics, you have a very good
language and literacy average. Your results also show that you are more of a visual
learner. Regarding your pre–test, the score that you have acquired is 5 over 25, so
do not worry about this since this is just a diagnostic test, designed to only to
check whether or not you have background knowledge on the qualification.
- Please proceed to our Contextual Learning Area. Please bring this with you. This
is your Information Sheet on (topic), please read and understand the contents of
this sheet. Afterwards, try to answer the Self – Check at the end of the info sheet to
the best of your knowledge. When you are done, compare your answers with the
answer sheet. Review the information sheet again based on your wrong answers
then try to answer the self – check again. Please be honest with yourself, and do
not check the answer key unless you have read the information sheet and
answered the self – check on your own.
- Alright, do you have any questions? If none, I will give you an hour to finish this
activity. You may proceed to our contextual learning area.
- (Call the next participant (Ryan Sullat – with PL, take your seat and face the
trainee in the other room and present his / her filled out forms.)
- Okay, Mr. Sullat, so based on your accomplished trainee’s characteristics, you
have a very good language and literacy, and you are already a college graduate.
Your results also show that you are more of a kinesthetic learner. Then on your pre
– test, you answered 23 questions correctly out of 25, so that is very good. It
means that you already have prior knowledge regarding our qualification.
- In your self–assessment check, you have also evaluated yourself to be
knowledgeable in this unit of competency – and is evidenced by your answers in
the pre – test. So, with that, we will focus your learning on the second unit of
competency, which is Produce Organic Vegetables in Organic Agriculture
Production NCII (state UC 2 of qualification here).
- So, to formally recognize your prior learning, you have to demonstrate Produce
Organic Vegetables (state a unit of competency). Would you like to undergo an
institutional assessment to fully recognize your prior learning?
- (Trainee will agree) Okay, so with that Sir Sullat, I will be giving you about 5
minutes to prepare yourself and then we will be having our institutional
assessment. So, after 5 minutes, I will meet with you at the Institutional
Assessment Area.
- (Move to the Institutional Assessment Area and perform institutional assessment
for one unit of competency). Alright, Sir Sullat, I have here (state conditions and
performance objective of UC to be performed. Provide a time limit and quietly
observe while the participant is performing the unit of competency. The trainee
finishes the performance successfully.)
- Alright Sir / Maam, kindly sit down. During your performance, you have shown that you
can (state contents of the unit of competency). I just have a few questions regarding your
performance (ask questions based on performance and the trainee will answer
satisfactorily.) That is very good, Sir / Maam. So, this evaluation shows that you are really
skilled and at the same time knowledgeable in (unit of competency). So, we can now
recognize your prior learning on (unit of competency) and with that, as your trainer, I
will now provide you with your certificate of achievement as evidence of your RPL. (hand
a document to the trainee) Congratulations Sir, here is your certificate. So, at our next
session, starting tomorrow, you will be moving on to the next unit of competency, which
is (next UC after the performed UC
during IA).
(The trainee will go back to the contextual learning area with you, and you will ask how
the first participant is doing).
Hello Sir/Maam (state trainee name 1), are you done with your Information Sheet? Have
you answered the Self – check? How about your score? May I see? Alright, so based on
your score, you have answered all correctly, so I just hope that you did not check with the
answer key before answering? Alright very good.

DAY 2
1. START PROCESS OF TRAINING
2. POST TEST
- Ms. Flores, I will administer the post-test now, I will give you 45 minutes to
answer the test, it is 40 items and please read it carefully and follow the
instruction.
- You may start now.
- Are you done? Okay, please pass your paper now.
3. EVALUATION FORM
- Please give me a moment to check your paper. And while waiting for the
result of your post-test, may I ask you to evaluate our training.
- Read carefully the instruction and answer it honestly.
- Are you done Ms. Flores? May I have the evaluation form? Thank you!
4. CERTIFICATE OF TRAINING
(Result)
- Ms. Flores, based on the result of your Post-test you got 38/40. For that I
congratulate you, you're competent, in entire qualification.
- I will now awarding the certificate of accomplishment. I advise you to go to the
nearest assessment center and schedule your National Assessment at your most
convenient time. You may go now Ms. Flores.
AFTER MS. Flores, ROAM AROUND TO VISIT MR. SULLAT
- How are you Mr. Sullat, are you done with the CBLM? (not yet, ma’am)
- You can continue it tomorrow.
(Closing)
- Alright class, that’s all for today, please stand for our closing prayer, (Amen)
- let’s call it a day, see you tomorrow…
That’s end my demonstration in Facilitating Learning Session, the remaining trainees will
undergo the same process because one of the CBT principles is multi entry and exit.
-I WILL NOW PROCEED TO MY CONDUCT COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT DEMO-

- And for the competency – based training delivery approach, we have two methods of evaluation, we have the institutional
assessment and the national assessment.
- The institutional assessment is provided by the training center, the trainer of the qualification and upon the successful
completion of all the evidences or requirements of the institutional assessment the next step is to apply and take the
national certification or assessment proper that will be administered by the Provincial Office of TESDA Samar. Wherein upon
passing the national assessment, you will be awarded with a national certificate that is recognized even in other countries
and will serve as a credential specific to your skills and to having a brighter future in your field of specialization. Okay, do
you have any questions so far?
- So, for the methods of training, you will be experiencing self – paced learning or modular, you will be the one to decide
whether or not you are ready to move on to other learning modules of our qualification. We’ll be having lectures and
discussion, if you will need that, based on the results of your Training Needs Analysis. Of course, there will be
demonstrations by your trainer, and I will be the one to perform the demonstrations of the skills that are included in our
qualification, and in turn, you are required to perform a return – demonstration and practice. You will also be given the
chance to undergo on – the – job training upon completion of this training duration. Also, we can also use the blended –
learning modality wherein we can combine the online approach and the offline approach as methods of learning.

- Based on the result of your Pre-test, Ms. Liza Joy Y. Flores you got the highest
score, 19 over 20. Therefore, I will send you to the Learning Resource Area and try
to read the CBLM, answer the self-checks and do the task sheets as required. And
for you Mr. Ryan Sullat, the results shows that you do not have prior knowledge in
OAP since you only got 1 over 20. do not worry about this since this is just a
diagnostic test, designed only to check whether or not you have background
knowledge on the qualification. Therefore, I will send you to the practical work
area and I will discuss and demonstrate to you the needed knowledge and skills in
OAP.
