A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS–SECONDARY

I. OBJECTIVES
Upon the Completion of this lesson, the student should able to;
 Solve problems involving adding and subtracting integers
 Construct a vertical and horizontal number line
 Student will have a determination and patience in learning mathematics
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Learning Integers – Addition and Subtraction
B. Reference: College Algebra Book for High School
C. Materials: White Board or Black Board for Board Work; white board marker or
chalk; work sheet.
D. Values: Let the student to have Determination and Patience.
III. PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. Preliminary Activity

- Good Morning Class - Good morning Ma’am

- Let us pray - One student’s will lead the prayer
- Check the attendance - Student’s will say present once
they called.
B. Motivation/Review

- What is our lesson yesterday? - Our lesson yesterday is all about

integers.
- Very Good, does anyone can
define what integer is? - Integer is a set of whole number.
- Can you give a example of an
integer. - All students will give an example of
- Okay now you what is integers we will integers.
have a game, everyone will participate.
- Everyone will be given a question about
integers. Example: write an integer that will
represent each situation
+10
10 degree above zero. -100
A loss of 100 peso +10
Gain of 10 pounds +12
12 step forward -25
25 ft below sea level
- Everyone will get their materials
-Very good class, now we will proceed to needed.
our lesson. Get your pen and notebook for
our lecture.

C. Presentation
- Yes
- Does anyone know how to add and - No one will answer
subtract numbers?
- How about adding integers? (Some student will raise their
hands and answer the question)
- Anyways our lesson for today is about - If the integers have the same sign
adding and subtract in integers. Does just add the integers and
anyone among you know the rule in copy it’s sign
adding integers?
- No one will answer.

- Very well said, how about adding two

integers with unlike sign.

- Any idea class? Any ways these are the

rule in adding the two integers having - Will copy the rules.
unlike sign:-

- When you are adding two integers with

different signs is like subtracting two
numbers and you take the sign of the
larger

- I will give some examples. If we add 15 to

-7 the answer will 8. Why 9, because 15
- Yes Ma’am
has a greater value. Another example, if
- Student will answer in the board.
we add +4 to -6 the answer -2. Why -2,
because -6 has a greater value.

- Do you understand?
- Now it is your time to solve some in the
board. (Will give some exercise to
answer thru board work.)

- Now you know how to add integers, we

will now study how to subtract integers.
Here are the rules in subtracting integers.
I. If the two integers are the same sign,
it’s either the answer will be positive or
negative. For example we subtract -5
to -6 the answer will be positive 1.
Why it’s positive 1, because in
subtracting integers is done by
changing the sign of subtrahend. The
subtrahend in the problem was the -6,
so that it will become +6 then subtract - Yes Ma’am.
it just because they have different sign - Everyone will get one half sheet of
then copy the sign of the larger papers. And they will copy and
number. Just always remember that answer the problems that will written
in subtracting integers we need to on the board.
change the sign of the subtrahend
then just do the rules in adding - They pass their papers.
integers.
- Do you understand?
- Now let’s have an activity. Bring one half
sheet of paper, then answer this. - Goodbye Ma’am.
(I will write some problems on the board)

- Okay class please pass your paper.

- That’s the end of our lesson for today,
tomorrow we will have a short review
about our lesson today, and after that we
will be move to multiplying integers.
- Okay class, goodbye.
