Results and Discussion Quantitative Sample
[STEP 01: Write an introductory paragraph for the Results and Discussion
chapter.] This chapter presents the findings and interpretation in response to the research
questions which generally aim to determine the correlation between SciMath Club Engagements
and Academic Performance. The result is presented in tabular and graphical forms, together with
the corresponding analyses and interpretations of the acquired data. The discussion section
includes further interpretation and related studies in relation to the findings of the study.
DEMOGRAPHIC
[STEP 02: Present the demographic background of your participants. For qualitative, you
may do it narratively. For quantitative survey, you may present using graphs and charts.
Figure 1
Gender of Respondents
Figure 1 shows the gender of the respondents. There are 8 male respondents, accounting
for 20% of the sample, while there are 32 female respondents, which make up 80% of the
sample, from Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School. This indicates that the

Age of Respondents
Figure 2 shows the age of the respondents of Ateneo de Zamboanga University - Senior
High School. It can be deduced from the presented figure that 28 out of 40 respondents are 17
years old, which makes up 70% of the respondents. 10 respondents, or 25% of the sample size,
are 18 years old. 1 respondent is 19 years old, while another one is 20 years old, with each of the

de Zamboanga University. 10 respondents were selected from each science and mathematics-
related organization, specifically Abacus Maximus, Eureka, AdZU-SHS Mathematics Club, and
Liga de Ciencia. Each of these makes up 25% of the sample size, totaling to 100%. There are an
equal number of respondents per club as we utilized a stratified random sampling method from
each organization. Having an equal number of respondents from each club will give us the same

[STEP 04: Set the context.] The table below shows the significant findings of the study
that is aims to answer the research objective: Correlation of SciMath Club Engagement and

Table 1
Correlation between Science and Mathematics Club Engagement and Academic Performance
[STEP 06: Make a brief description of the data presented.] Table 1 presents the
Pearson-R Correlation between SciMath Club Engagements and Academic Performance among
Senior High Schools students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University in tabular form. The study
tested the alternative hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between SciMath club
engagements and academic performance. Thus, the researchers utilized the Pearson correlation

provide a discussion per theme. For quantitative survey and experimental, provide a
The p-value of .320 derived from the Pearson-R Correlation is higher than the alpha level
of 0.05, thus, the researchers failed to reject the null hypothesis which implies that the
researchers do not have sufficient evidence to conclude that SciMath Club Engagements and
SciMath Academic Performance are correlated. Moreover, the r-value derived from the
correlation test is .161, which falls between the correlation coefficient value r range of -0.30 to
0.30. This signifies that there is negligible correlation between the two variables. The P-value
and the r-value, altogether, lead us to an ultimate interpretation that the relationship between
This implies that the engagement of students in SciMath clubs and organizations is not a factor
that affects their academic performances in which their level of engagement does not relate to
[STEP 08: Do cross-referencing. Look for at least two (2) validating results and at
least two (2) contradicting results from relevant studies. You may use the literature
presented in your RRL. MORE IS BETTER.] In contrast, the study conducted by Gottfried
and Williams (2013) found a positive relationship between students’ academic achievements and
their participation in extracurricular activities. When one of the two students sharing the same
grade was exposed to a mathematics organization, this particular student was able to achieve a
higher academic performance in mathematics in comparison to the one who did not. On the other
hand, the study of Garland (2010) presented a negative correlation as students who participated
more in extracurricular activities produced lower grades in comparison to those who showed less
involvement. This may be due to mismanagement of time which eventually led to the imbalance
of these two variables. Contrary to previous studies, the present research does not agree with the
two aforementioned studies as the findings of this study revealed that there is negligible
correlation between SciMath club engagements and academic performance among Senior High
Schools students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University. This may be attributed to the limitation
brought upon by the large ratio of sample size to population size, which did not provide a
realistic representation of the student body. Nevertheless, these results imply that academic
performance will not be, in any way, affected by club participation and vice versa. Thus, there is
not enough evidence to conclude that the variables compared are statistically significant nor do
