My Classroom Routines

This episode will center to my close observation to the


classroom routines performed by my cooperating teacher
and my students. To make this learning experience
meaningful, I need to record important notes during the observation, assist my
cooperating teachers in establishing/doing the classroom routines, and extend
assistance in the day’s activities.

My Directions

To get to know my cooperating school better, I must do the following tasks:

Research on the definitions of classroom routines and ways in


establishing classroom routines…..Write down here….You may use
graphic organizer to present your ideas.

Solid Classroom routines and procedures are the heart of every successful
classroom. Transition are quick, materials are organized, and all students know where
to be and what to do. According to Burden (2020), a routine facilitates a complex
environment and tells students precisely what to expect, what is predictable of them,
and what satisfactory behavior is.

Establishing classroom routines lets students know what is expected, allowing


them to complete daily tasks quickly and efficiently. Also, classroom routines create
a comfortable and predictable learning environment for students. This can help build
students’ confidence and reduce their anxiety (Nearpod Team, 2023).

“MY EXPERIENCES IN STRUCTURING MY CLASSROOM”

When we were deployed at La Filipina National High School, the school was
already implementing a pure face-to-face class. It was March 1, 2023, when I met my
students in the two sections that I’ll be handling. I was very excited because, finally,
it would be my turn to teach and share with them my knowledge of mathematics.
Thus, I was given the opportunity to handle a class. Beforehand. I prepared
everything I needed, especially myself.
At first, structuring a classroom and making it ready are quite difficult. This
is due to the fact that it was my very first time being in this situation. However, with
the proper guidance of my dear cooperating teacher, all of it becomes easier.

In structuring a classroom, before I start my class, I usually prepare all the


things I need, such as setting up the PowerPoint presentation, putting the learning
objectives on the board, and arranging the seats. And I start my class with a prayer
and greetings. Followed by setting clear classroom rules and an energizer, then a
short review of their previous lesson. Later, after that, is the lesson proper. That will
be the time where I can utilize the learner-centered approach, and while I am
conducting my lesson, I also ask several questions to random students that require
their higher-order thinking skills. Assessing their understanding of the lesson comes
last, through giving them work sheets.

My Reflections

What are your realizations in structuring the classroom? If you will already
have a classroom in the future, how will you establish daily routines? What strategies
are you going to employ? Why is it important to establish routines?

Structuring a classroom is not an easy task. I have come to realize that


the first thing a teacher should do is to create a safe and conducive
environment for learning, thus setting a goal where learners will be educated,
literate and keeping them learning.

If ever I am given a chance to handle a classroom in the future, I will


establish routines and rules that will focus on the teaching-learning process
and aim to assist students in achieving the learning outcomes. I will also
utilize strategies and/or approaches that will help me address the needs of
each learner. Moreover, I will also ensure to craft learning activities that will
give students an opportunity to enhance their interpersonal and
collaborative skills. Aside from that, I will also encourage the learners to be
participative; for instance, I will give them a problem that has to be solved on
the board.

Taking everything into account, the importance of structuring a


classroom with clear classroom rules and routines enables students to feel
safe, comfortable, and confident. Students will be able to express themselves
without hesitation or worrying about being bullied by their classmates and/or
other students.
